Imagine

Guys please spare athought for the great man...

The greatest ever song writer was stolen from us 26 years ago today...

John Lennon
Imagine

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

R.I.P John Lennon :sorrow:

He was a member of the greatest band ever and was an excellent songwriter.

RIP.

Although I prefer his work in the band over his solo work.

Once McCartney and Lennon went their separate ways they both suffered as songwriters: they each lost their quality control man, as nobody they worked with afterwards would have the balls to say "why don't you change that bit?" to a legendary ex-Beatle.

That's my theory anyway. The Lennon/McCartney team are the best songwriters ever, but as an individual I rate Ray Davies higher.

I bought the new Beatles album yesterday, 'Love'. It's still way better than almost everything that has come since.

I'd have to dis-agree with you there...

John Lennon was still developing as a song writer right up till the day he died.

After the Beatles he wrote songs like,

Imagine
God
Instant Karma
Mother
Power to the people
Beautiful Boy
Woman
Watching the wheels

And that's just to name a few...

John Lennon was perhaps the greatest song writer of all time! (During, and after the Beatles)

Well, in my book anyway...

Oh! And I forgot...

Happy Xmas (war is over)

A song that has meaning today, and at this time of the year, if ever it did...

Hmm, I actually think McCartney was a better songwriter than Lennon, but of course his legend is tainted by the fact that he's still alive.

I will concede than Lennon's solo efforts were better than McCartney's, but Paul had the edge when they were in the Beatles.

Sorry, but we'll have agree to dis-agree then... :wow:

In my opinion,

Norwegian Wood
All you need is love
You've got to hide your love away
Yer Blues
Revolution

and the like,

Shit all over songs like,

Ob-la-di ob-la-da
When I'm Sixty four
Yellow submarine

or even Michelle

Granted Paul did Yesterday,
But pretty much all the great Beatles tracks were written by John.

BTW, I like Paul also, I just happen to think John was the most important member of that famous songwriting duo...

Quoting those particular examples I would agree with you :haha:

Ob-la-di ob-la-da is shite, to mention that one and ignore the magnificent "Hey Jude" off Paul's list is a bit unfair

Having said that, John was one of the greatest songwriters ever, don't get me wrong. I loved Across the Universe, In My Life and I'm Only Sleeping in particular.
