Bottom post of the previous page:

Aerial pics of the old Donington circuit are extremely rare. These are the first I have seen, courtesy of Motorsport Images.

At first I was confused how there could be a left hander leading down to the Melbourne Hairpin, but then I realised that this is actually Starkey's Corner and the Melbourne Hairpin did not exist for another year or so after these images were taken.

In the third photo you can see the exit of Coppice. That's the first time I have ever seen this part of the old track from above or otherwise. There is another hairpin here, which was part of a short layout known as the Manufacturer's circuit. I didn't know about this before.

(more here: https://media.lotuscars.com/en/heritage ... laces.html)

And fist few pictures here show the 1999 version of the track (very close to modern layout):

Disappointing, the oldest photo available is from 1968, several years after the conversion. :sorrow:

Nice! I'm surprised to see they had the chicane installed where Barrichello crashed in '94, I thought that was a much later addition.

Yes. The Variante Bassa was added in 1973. And the Variante Alta a year later.

It is remarkable how much the track is still part of the local scenery.

Indeed, the track was build from local roadways and was up until the late 70s still a semipermanent facility. There is a flurry of improvements to the track from 73 onward, most likely since they tried to get a GP. That seems to have been what made the track a permanent facility in the end. On the other hand, the road itself was pretty much unchanged from 1980 to 1995. See the Racing Circuit database entry, just recently updated ;)
