ARCA race has been moved to tonight after the Truck race (approx. 10:30pm EST), due to the aforementioned rain forecasted for Saturday.

Shane Van Gisbergen failed to qualify for the ARCA race after losing the draft in the session. Luckily, his time in the car was enough to be approved to run the Xfinity race.

It seems not so much approved as arranged. Result is the same..... SVG will get a start.

Van Gisbergen was drawn in Group 4 of seven for qualifying and would set the 35th-fastest time in the field, a 50.927s, one position outside the automatic cut-off.

However, his Pinnacle Racing Group team has now announced that Car #7, which had been qualified 17th by Eric Caudell, has now been withdrawn, meaning the New Zealander will start.

No doubt Eric Causell received a brown paper bag under the table and marched off to the bank with it. :suspicious:
Van Gisbergen had been in the same group as eventual pole-sitter Willie Mullins, but lost the draft when he was unable to get a good enough launch off pit road.

Mullins clocked a 48.982s while Andy Jankowiak was 34th-fastest on a 50.534s, 0.393s faster than the three-time Supercars champion.

Three grid positions were also available on the basis of 2023 owners' points standings for those who failed to automatically qualify in that top 34, but that was not enough for SVG's Car #28 either.

However, PRG has now advised, via X (nee: Twitter), “With the No. 7 car withdrawing from tonight's ARCA race, @shanevg97 qualifying lap will now put him in the field, starting 34th.”

Welcome to Daytona, SVG

ARCA have actually been pretty good at Daytona and Talladega in recent years, Per racing reference that’s the first ARCA crash on an Superspeedway involving more than 6 cars since 2018.

SVG returned to the race track 25 laps down, was just caught up in another wreck but no further damage, looks like he spun out by himself while trying to duck down pit road to avoid the wreck.

Gus Dean wins a wild ARCA 200 after many lead cars were taken out in a big wreck on the final lap.

It was a tough initiation to superspeedway racing for both Marco Andretti and Shane Van Gisbergen. Andretti cut a tire late in the race, causing his car to slam the wall and briefly catch fire, relegating him to a 25th place finish, meanwhile SVG was caught up in a big wreck on lap 4, his team made repairs and he would return to the race multiple laps down, eventually ending up 29th.
