Kirkwood takes the 2nd win of the season while Herta hit the wall before that RF pile-up and it seems like he's really lost most of his mojo ever since his father was transferred away from the race engineer role. Herta is heading the same path Rossi went before. The longer he goes at AA the results get worse but he's still very young for ICS standards so nothing to worry about. He shouldn't end like Graham Rahal who kinda doesn't have it anymore but will stick around for a few years thanks to his family name.

I don't think Graham ever truly had "it". 6 wins in 17 years isn't exactly a great return (and he spent much of his time around when American openwheel was plumbing the depths). Colton has 7 wins in 5 seasons - nothing remarkable either, but I think that it shows he's wasted at AA.

That said, Graham is no bad driver. And at his height was a perfectly respectable driver.

(Interesting to note - Dixon 'only' has 9 wins in the last 5 seasons, but hasn't finished outside the top 4 in the standings. Herta's been 7th, 3rd, 5th, 10th and is currently 10th. Goes to show how much consistency pays.)

Yeah, Rahal had a better career start and then even had this one season when he was a genuine title challenger but overall I'd rate Herta's prospects as better than Rahal with Marco Andretti obviously down in third place among these racing sons.

AA remains a curious place since Mikey getting involved in multiple forms of racing seems to have hampered the IndyCar team results since the days of Dario Franchitti carrying the squad. I was somewhat surprised Rossi flamed out rather fast and like I said, Herta is heading the same path but maybe he can still recover. If not then I believe it's a team structure problem regardless of the fact half of AA are still basically pay drivers.

Yeah, they're a bit of a curious beast.

And their unreliability in previous seasons was rather famous. But it's not just them - Will Power's car for some reason seemed cursed as well as Rossi's (and to a certain extent Herta's).

As much as Rossi could run hot and cold, he lost a lot of points at AA through the car breaking on him.
