Reading between the lines it seems that Indycar themselves (on medical advise, current protocols (and no doubt as Monte implied, a bit of lawyer intervention / threat.

Pagenaud, the 2019 Indy 500 winner and 2016 IndyCar champion, continues displaying concussion-like symptoms.

Due to the Frenchman’s ongoing symptoms and the IndyCar Series’ concussion protocol, he was not cleared after his massive crash at Mid-Ohio a week and a half ago.

Of course its good to get another Aussie in the series (Aussie on the basis of he grew up and did all his early championship winning racing in NZ before going toEurope so under Aussie (sporting) immigration rules he is one of us) . Also he has been spotted transiting an Australian International Airport. Where he is born becomes immaterial!!

He has form with Meyer Shank as well having driven with Helio with success for the MS team at the Daytona 24 for the past couple of years, not to mention an Indycar test with the team last year.

I was somewhat amused given Monte's quoted post and the tone of the Meyer Shank statement confirming "Aussie Tom"....

“We are fortunate to have Tom available to jump in on such short notice. He’s a champion, has a little bit of experience in the car, and is coming off another big IMSA win last weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, so this was not a tough call for us to make,” said Michael Shank.

Palou on the wrong side as rain starts and will start 17th. Really solid by Blomqvist nearly making it through to the F12. Herta and Rossi also bumped.
