That is so terribly sad. :tearful: He was a quick driver and his time to win a round was not far away..... 6 times he came second in WRC.
Sad also to lose the enthusiasm and total love he had for rallying. Always on a high and he seemed to love every minute. He will be sadly missed by many of his peers.... a very popular and likeable guy.

Thought and condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Craig Breen. :rip:

This one hurts. RIP Craig Breen. He shone so brightly in Rally Sweden, so so sad now that he's career was getting a second wind.

So saddened by Craig's death he went through so much after the death of his co-driver Gareth "Jaffa" Roberts who was killed in 2012 wrc2 rally whilst partnering Craig during the Targa Floria Rally , He always dedicated any good result to Jaffa and in my books was a future contender for WRC champion honours
GOD SPEED CRAIG 🙏

I first heard the name Craig Breen quite a long time ago. He was doing really well and going places.

Judging by the reports, it seems that this was just a freak accident after hitting a fence and there was hardly any damage to the car :(

I believe he was not going particularly fast due to it being very slippery.... the car slid into a wooden fence and a wooden a fence post came through the drivers side window and into 'the car'.

Window? Not door? That sounds even more horrible...guessing it was quick, at least.

According to the team two words mentioned were 'window' and 'instantaneous'
......“Regarding the accident, we can say that Craig was participating in the pre-event test in Croatia. Road conditions were slippery and the car slid off the road at a relatively low speed and made contact with a wooden fence.

“A post from this fence intruded into the cabin through the driver’s side window.

“The stage was closed immediately and the on-stage medical team was rapidly on the scene.

“Craig was taken to hospital from the stage. As far as can be determined, Craig’s passing was instantaneous.

“Hyundai Motorsport and the FIA are working together to review all aspects of the incident. As far as can be ascertained, there was no issue with any element of the car, the tyres or the safety equipment. The local police completed a report at the scene.”

Sadly yes. The photos in the URLs shared by Motorsportrace show no damage to the driver's side door:

I am not sure if this makes a difference but perhaps the WRC needs to consider using full face helmets.

A wonderful review of Craig's WRC Career, through all the cars and events.

Titled simply "Craig Breen 1990 - 2023"
We lost one of the fastest and most passionate drivers there ever was in an testing accident before Croatia Rally. Always driving on the limit and full of passion, there was never a boring stage end interview with Craig.
This video has footage from 23 events starting from Rally Finland 2010 with the Fiesta S2000 until the 2nd place finish at Rally Sweden 2023 with Hyundai Motorsport.
Thanks for making every stage worth it.
Rest easy Craig Breen.
