But then again, most of the rules seem rubbish around red flags.

I see the engine on Russell's Merc that failed had had its post mortem report issued. It failed as he was coming back from the red flag that screwed his strategy, when his car caught fire at the end of lap 18, leading him to parking up on the exit of the pit lane. It ingested debris from the track and is toast...... all the mechanical elements of the PU have been lost from the pool. Only the electronic elements have been salvaged.

So that pretty much guarantees an engine penalty for George at some stage later in the year, given he now only has one further engine after the replacement for the next race is fitted. Obviously the failed one cant even be recycled for use in practice..
