Whaddaya mean, he's dead - I didn't even know he was still alive!!
I still remember my reaction to the news that Irving Berlin had died, something like 35 years ago. Now, it feels almost the same, except that I 'knew' Bacharach not only from reading in history books (and some old fashioned films and records), but from hearing some of his songs when still brand new, and from at least one Austin Powers movie. Apparently, writing good songs is a recipe for getting REALLY old.

What an amazing and long career he had. It would be easier to list who he hasnt written songs for than those who he has. Apparently He was still writing and recording music, certainly up to last year anyway. In fact he got a Grammy nomination in 2020 for something he had just written and arranged.
An interview with him last year asked him what music means to him.... "Music is salvation, particularly at this time in my life, it keeps me grounded. It keeps my mind off of things I don't want to think about."
I'll say a little prayer for him.
