Bottom post of the previous page:

Ducati chief Giga Dall’Igna believes that six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has indeed decided to leave Honda for Gresini Racing.

I believe he will too.... fact is until Marc and Honda confirm it it is just 'make' believe and regardless of what we might feel it aint over until contracts are signed and the main parties CONFIRM it.

Dall’Igna did later seem to realise he had perhaps been overly confident, and reverted to a lower key nothing is signed yet stance, though, pointed out that the move has not been confirmed, when he issued a follow-up few words on the matter.
“This is what I heard, clearly there is no official announcement yet,” he added.

Speculation has been rife about Marc's future for months and he has done nothing to try and shut it down, notwithstanding that he has a year to run on his contract with Honda.

Marquez even admitted that a first Grand Prix podium in almost 12 months, when he finished third in the last 24 hours at Japan’s Motegi, was a “super strange” feeling.

It now appears all the more likely that he is leaving the former MotoGP powerhouse of Honda for the fourth-string Ducati team, to ride a year-old Desmosedici motorcycle,. Ducati seem happy with the situation, and believe they have Marquez, but nothing is yet set in concrete or at a confirmation status..

I guessing but would think the facts are agreed but the terms and what money changes hands are the stumbling block.

Well, that could be good news for Pedro Acosta who seems to be unable to find an open KTM bike in MotoGP for 2024 so Polish commentators speculated that Repsol could throw all the money for Honda to hire the "next Marquez".

I believe Repsol would still follow Marquez to Gresini and sponsor two different manufacturers?

And the Marquez/Honda era is officially over. The by-product of the utter Ducati MotoGP dominance. If you can't beat them, you join them.

Pedro Acosta will join Tech3 in MotoGP next season. Pol Espargaro is the one being demoted. So that clears up the biggest remaining mystery on the grid.

Who will take Marquez's seat? Will Zarco move across? Lecuona to LCR. Oliveira? :idunno:

Zarco has been announced as Rins' replacement in LCR Honda already but of course he can be promoted to works HRC team in light of the Marquez transfer.

Rins will replace Pramac-bound Franco Morbidelli in the works Yamaha team.

All change at the top.....

So as those who follow MotoGP will know the premier class championship battle has hotted up with all season comfortable leader (leading by some 60 odd points at one stage. Several brain fades later and a resurgence to form for Jorge Martin saw the gap drop to a scant three points coming into this weekend in Indonesia.

It was time for Bagnaia to pull his socks up and stretch the gap. Nice thought but it hasnt worked out that. way. Bagnaia in practice 2 failed to reach the top 10 so missed out in the free ticket to Q2 and was faced with Q1, knowing only the first two in Q1 go through. He came 3rd, meaning a lowly 13th on the grid. Oerhaps worse was that Bags was 2nd and had done enough to go through to Q2 until his own Ducati team-mate Enea Bastianini came through at the death to take the 2nd and dump Bags out. It is the first time this year Bagnaia has missed going through to Q2.

All eyes were on Martin to see where he would qualify. Fortunately for Bags Martin only managed a 6th place. Didnt make much difference to Martin though...... In the Sprint race it all went hiss way and he cruised to his 4th straight Sprint race win. Bagnaia finished an underwhelming race out of the points.

Bottom line is we now hqave a new Championship leader, the 10 points for winning the Sprint enough to turn the pre race 3 point deficit into a 7 point lead.

It is the first time Martin has led the MotoGP championship in his career.

All to play for tomorrow in the main points paying race.

Got to say Bezzechi deserves a medal....
he broke his collar bone during the week training, had surgery, and only got to Indonesia the morning of practice..... he went out and broke the outright track lap record by a margin. As said Martin charged through to win, but Bezzechi managed to finish of the podium. A very brave effort considering he only arrived at the track yesterday.

Phillip Island this weekend.

Fabulous weather today, but it isnt going to last. It got a bit cloudy as the day wore on. Come Sunday and the forecast is for gails and rain The threat is so high the schedule has been re-arranged.

Weather forces MotoGP to move the main Feature race to Saturday
The feature MotoGP race will be held tomorrow at Phillip Island due to an adverse weather forecast for Sunday.

The Sprint, Race which was to have been held on Saturday afternoon will instead be held on Sunday.
A statement released by MotoGP has advised, “Due to inclement weather forecast for Sunday the 22nd of October, the schedule for the MotoGP Guru by Gryfyn Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix has been updated.

“This decision has been taken proactively in order to guarantee the best and safest possible show for all competitors and fans attending Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this weekend.

“The MotoGP Grand Prix race will now take place on Saturday the 21st of October at 15:10 local time (GMT +11).

“The Tissot Sprint is now scheduled to begin at 14:00 on Sunday the 22nd of October, weather permitting.”
Winds upwards of 50km/h had been forecast for Sunday afternoon, as well as rain, with a number of riders stating on set-up day that it would not be possible to hold a race under those conditions.

At a glance it seems the major change is just swapping the Sprint and Main Moto GP races with each other/.

Updated Australian MotoGP schedule

Time Class Distance Session
Saturday
08:40-09:10 Moto3 Practice Nr. 3
09:25-09:55 Moto2 Practice Nr. 3
10:10-10:40 MotoGP Free Practice Nr. 2
10:50-11:05 MotoGP Qualifying Nr. 1
11:15-11:30 MotoGP Qualifying Nr. 2
11:40-12:45 MotoGP Best of
12:50-13:05 Moto3 Qualifying Nr. 1
13:15-13:30 Moto3 Qualifying Nr. 2
13:45-14:00 Moto2 Qualifying Nr. 1
14:10-14:25 Moto2 Qualifying Nr. 2
15:10-16:00 MotoGP 27 Laps Race
17:00-18:15 MotoGP Race Press Conference

Sunday
09:40-09:50 MotoGP Warm Up
10:00-10:35 MotoGP Rider Fan Parade
11:00-11:35 Moto3 21 Laps Race
12:15-12:55 Moto2 23 Laps Race
14:00-15:15 MotoGP 13 Laps Tissot Sprint Race

Amusing to me is that the usual Main Race warm up is now being held after the GP..... still in its original time slot on Sunday, but with just the Sprint race to follow. I suppose given the forecast it will give them some laps to set bikes. up for the wet and the Sprint race.

Moto 2 and Moto 3 are still scheduled to race on Sunday so their safety is irrelevant (The excuse for changing the main MotoGP race was rider safety.

I am sure if the weather is as predicted Sunday might be a washout with nothing much happening anyway.

But remember its Victoria and the weather changes from hour to hour and we are known for 4 seasons in one day.

As for today, Bagnaia yet again failed to get into the top 10 in practice and therefore will have to go through the Q1 segment. Jorge Martin finished 4th so goes straight. through to Q2.

6:10 am CET start for MotoGP race. It's doable

Btw, it seems like the title fight between Martin & Bagnaia will come down to who crashes out less in the final stretch :whistling:

Practice for all categories started early this morning.... the weather at P1 is dry at the moment, but very grey overhead.

Qualifying for MotoGP is just stating now.

Oh news just in that Alex Rins has withdrawn from the weekend due to lingering leg pain.

Rins crashed earlier in the year at Mugello and attempted to return to Grand Prix racing in Japan but was forced to also sit that one out after testing in Friday Practice.

Hewas able to ride last weekend in Indonesia, finishing ninth in the Grand Prix race.

He completed both Practice sessions yesterday, but didn’t put on the leathers for today’s Free Practice 2 session.

After medical consultation, Rins will instead head to Melbourne for a CT scan on his leg.

3 minutes to go and the riders are out for final laps. ATM Bags sits 2nd behind Fernandez with MM93 3rd

Just seen the speed trap figures and Bags hit the radar at 350 kph on the pit straight!

Bags just gone top and has another lap

Hints of blue sky now. So much for forecasts.
