Martin Donnelly made a one-off debut for Arrows in place of the injured Derek Warwick at the 1989 French GP and finished 12th.
Donnelly also contested the Thruxton rounds of the 2015 British Touring Car Championship for the infamous Infiniti Support Our Paras Racing team. His best result was 19th in Race 2.
Nigel Mansell drove for the works Ford team in the 1993 TOCA Shootout at Donington Park. A collision with Tiff Needell sent him smashing into a bridge support at Starkey's.
Mansell returned to the works Ford team for three meetings in the 1998 BTCC. The first of which was Donington which also brought him his best result, a 5th place in Race 2, having led the race earlier on.
Karli Wendlinger was considered to be as fast as Schumacher - he made his debut in 1992 with March team:
Always thought that March cars of that era were some of the most beautiful cars ever.... I guess it was the late 80's Newey ones that really floated my boat, the 881 891 though the 911B was also quite pleasant on the eye. (I dont think they had a straight 911, maybe something to do with Porsche. ISTR Jordan had an issue with Porsche over what was originally the EJ911 had to be changed to 191 as Porsche claimed some sort of copyright on 911.. I know Eddie struck a deal with Porsche that he would change the 911 tag to 191 if they gave him a free 911, which supposedly is what happened.)

Damon Hill took part in the Donington 1 Hour Endurance race in the 1989 British Touring Car Championship. He took over the Ford Sierra RS500 usually driven by Sean Walker and together they finished 4th.

Agree. Newey's car were slick and beautifuly shaped. But Murphy's CG911 was also very nice car... And Lotus 107 - which according to rumors was designed as March CG921 - too
I recall reading the story how Leyton House/March were able to get away with '911' name, but I can't remember now where....

With Tony Fernandes, Caterham's owner and benefactor having bailed mid season, Caterham were looking for funding..... Former F1 driver Bertrand Gachot (yes, he who maced a cab driver and was jailed, leading to Jordan letting Peter Sauber buy Schumacher the drive that started his career, ironically also in Belgium) offered the team a sponsorship deal for that year (2014) Belgian GP if they agreed to put Belgian-born Lotterer in the car.
Needing the cash, Caterham agreed and ran Lotterer alongside Marcus Ericsson for a surprise F1 debut at Spa. He out-qualified the Marcus by almost a second but sadly retired just one lap into the race with a mechanical failure.
That was his only GP ever.
Lotterer was already a 3 time Le Mans winner and World Endurance Champion, not to mention Formula Nippon Champion, and personally I was surprised he never got any F1 opportunities beyond a one-off pay drive with Caterham.
Lotterer made his only American Open Wheel Racing appearance in Mexico at the final round of the 2002 CART Season. He drove for the returning Dale Coyne Racing team and finished 12th.
Probably fair to call him a journeyman, but V8 Supercar driver David Besnard had one appearance in this stunning Walker Racing Champcar at Surfers Paradise in 2004.
Oscar Piastri in F1! Catch the fever! Vettel Hate Club. Life membership.
Richard Petty in the 1978 Bristol 500. Petty had just switched from Dodge to Chevrolet midway through the season, and having wrecked the lone Monte Carlo in his stable the previous week at Michigan, Petty had to borrow a Chevrolet from journeyman driver Henley Gray for Bristol, hastily repainting the yellow sections of the paint scheme in STP dayglo red.
The regular Henley Gray car for comparison:
A more famous example for Petty came in the 1986 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. After wrecking his #43 Pontiac in practice, Petty was loaned D.K. Ulrich's green/white #6 Chevrolet for the race.

I don't have the pics to hand, but have we done Schumacher in the Ligier?
Speaking of no pics, Rally legend Hannu Mikkola contested the final round of the 1969 British Saloon Car Championship in a Ford Escort, he finished 3rd in Class and 5th outright. http://touringcarracing.net/Races/1969% ... MS200.html
