Thats 29 cars.... dont hold your breath re the Anderson Motorsport car being more than an idea. Technically the only unconfirmed seat is alongside BJR' Jack Smith in the SGT car.

Also note that I have put Matt Campbell has today been confirmed in with David Reynolds and Matt Payne ow with Lee Holdswprth, not the reverse of that originally posted.

I just see a few cracks in the Grove Payne relationship..... from tlate last year being mentioned of as the future of the team to now being relegated to seeming lesser functions. Dont suppose it did much for his case when he destroyed owner Steve Groves Porsche not even half way into the Spa 24 hours. :banghead: Oh and Payne is a V8SC rookie this year.

Anyway its a starter and a place to discuss and post specific 2022 Bathurst 1000 news as you find it......special (retro) liveries

Anderson wildcard ruled out for Bathurst 1000

Confirmed today the Anderson Motorsport Wildcard entry has been declined by Motorsport Aus and the entry will not proceed. No surprises there.

Originally the entry was granted conditional approval with conditions. One was its reliance on Anderson getting a Superlicence exemption..... it then became news that he had told a few untruths re his experience on the S/L exemption application.

The entry was also conditional on a high profile co-driver promise. That never materialised.

Anyway bottom line is there will be no Anderson Motorsport Wildcard entry and we are back to 28 confirmed runners.

Still no confirmation of who will partner Jack Smith n the SGT Brad Jones run car.

Bathurst 1000 start time wound back

Nothing desperate or unexpected, but this year’s Bathurst 1000 will return to a more traditional race start time in line with the later start last yer given it was run in December with the longer days than this years return to the traditional October running.

The Mount Panorama enduro, which forms Race 30 of the championship, is scheduled to get underway at 11:15 local time/AEDT on Sunday October 9.

It comes after the 2021 edition, held in December, featured the latest start time ever of 12:15.

The Top 10 Shootout remains a fixture, slated for 17:05 on Saturday (October 8), which is preceded by a 40-minute qualifying session on Friday (October 7) at 16:15.

Six one-hour practice sessions are spread out across the weekend, with two on each of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Practice 2 and Practice 5 are co-driver dedicated sessions, while a 20-minute Warm Up will take place on Sunday at 08:00 ahead of the Great Race.

The Dunlop Super2 Series, Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia, Haltech V8 SuperUte Series, Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 Australia Series, and Heritage Revival feature as support categories. Great to see the Heritage revival Historic tourers getting a run.

Gen3 will also have demonstrations over the course of the event.

Still no confirmation on who will co-drive the SGT Jack Smith car.... but its getting closer.
Evans poised for Bathurst co-drive ahead of Supercars evaluation

Porsche Driver Jaxon Evans is in the frame to make his Great Race debut in Supercars’ last vacant co-drive seat with a planned Brad Jones Racing evaluation day.

The #4 SCT Logistics ZB Commodore is yet to have its enduro line up confirmed, though the squad previously stated it has good options on its radar.

David Wall was a favourite to slot in alongside Jack Smith again, having paired up at Mount Panorama last year to finish 17th.

However, Wall is committed to his Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia programme as a team owner and driver of Wall Racing.

The BJR crew is now bringing Evans into the fold, with an evaluation day planned for September 19 at Winton.

Following that, a decision will be made as to whether Evans will be locked in as Smith’s co-driver for the Repco Bathurst 1000 (October 6-9).
https://www.speedcafe.com/2022/09/06/ev ... valuation/

Craig Lowndes and Richie Stanaway will be the nominated primary drivers for their wildcard entries at this year’s Bathurst 1000.

Supercars confirmed last week that 28 cars were entered for the October 6-9 event, with the Anderson Motorsport wildcard ruled out.

While 25 full-time Repco Supercars Championship cars will compete, three of the confirmed entries are wildcards.

Lowndes will be the lead driver of the Supercheap Auto wildcard, sharing the T888 Commodore with rookie Declan Fraser.

Stanway has been nominated as the primary driver of the Erebus Motorsport entry he will share with Kiwi legend Greg Murphy.

The Matt Chahda Motorsport wildcard of Matt Chahda and Jaylyn Robotham will have Chahda as its lead driver.

Most who are reading this thread will be aware of the significant damage done to the Erebus car of Will Brown and the likleyhood of the car not being repairable in time for Bathurst, thus meaning the team would likely need to commandeer the wildcard entry (Erebus spare) they were running for Murphy and Stanaway.

Good news on that front. Erebus have now stripped the damaged car back and feel they can repair it in time for Bathurst. Hopefully no last minute hiccups and the car comes out straight and good as new. :fingers: :fingers:

Erebus Motorsport has confirmed that Will Brown’s car will be repaired for the Bathurst 1000.
The team has also confirmed the Boost Mobile-backed wildcard of Greg Murphy/Richie Stanaway is still on for the October 6-9 event.

Brown sustained a 56G impact at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint last weekend after a clash with Mark Winterbottom in Race 28.

It left the #9 ZB Commodore with significant damage.

The car arrived back in Melbourne from New Zealand on Wednesday, at which point the team was able to strip the chassis and make an assessment.

Erebus CEO Barry Ryan says the #9 can be repaired ahead of the Great Race where Brown will be joined by co-driver Jack Perkins.

“The guys have had a proper look at the car and we believe we can fix it in time for Bathurst,” said Ryan.

“We’ve got it to Mount Gambier and on the jig this morning, the whole rear of the car is getting cut off and we’ll replace it all.

“Once it’s done, we’ll get it to paint and then back in the workshop and start to replace all the componentry and bodywork.

“Almost every tube in the back half of the car has either been torn, twisted or bent. Items like our gearbox, fuel tank housing, drive shafts and suspension components also need to be repaired or replaced.

“We knew there had been substantial damage, though you always find more as you start to pull parts and panels off it.”

It means Erebus’ spare car remains available for the #51 Murphy/Stanaway wildcard to compete in at next month’s Mount Panorama enduro.

Until now, the Kiwi duo’s Bathurst hopes were under a cloud, though Boost Mobile boss Peter Adderton flagged the idea of switching teams if Erebus couldn’t run the #51 entry.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team; our guys are working around the clock to ensure we have three Boost Mobile Commodores at Bathurst,” added Ryan.

“We are going to Bathurst with the goal to replicate our pole position last year and go two steps higher on the podium, and we’re doing everything in our power to make that happen.

“It’s no different with the wildcard, and it will have been a long journey once it finally gets to Bathurst.

“Everyone wants to see Murphy at Bathurst one more time and we are excited to see how Richie goes in an Erebus car.”

According to the team, it is unlikely that Brown’s chassis will be ready for his last rookie test day next week.

However, the #9 could test the following week, the same day as Murphy/Stanaway’s final pre-Bathurst hit out.

FINAL ENTRY LIST CONFIRMED

Nothing unexpected here but the line up is now complete with the one remaining seat, that of the co driver for Jack Smith now confirmed.

Kiwi Jaxon Evans is the last remaining co-driver seat for the Repco Bathurst 1000 following undergoing an evaluation day with Brad Jones Racing and his subsequent confirmation as the driver.

The only activity now pre the event itself in just over two weeks is one day of testing to be held this week.....
Victorian-based squads will be testing at Winton Motor Raceway on Tuesday, September 20, while Queensland-based teams will take to Queensland Raceway on Wednesday, September 28.

The only eception to that is likely to be. the #99 Erebus car of Will Brown and Jack Perkins which is undergoing a rebuild following its huge Pukekohe crash a week ago. It is expected to be redy come race week but not for tomorrows Victorian team test day

DJR to celebrate its 1000th ATCC start at Bathurst....

DJR will celebrate a historic milestone with a rare livery change on both its Supercars for the Bathurst 1000.

Next month’s Mount Panorama enduro will be DJR’s 1000th Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars race.

It will become the first Australian motor racing team to reach such a milestone, after being founded in 1980.

The Team is set to unveil its tribute livery on Monday (September 26). Wonder if it will be a retro livery.

They will be hoping for a better run this year than in the 1980 Bathurst thats for sure.

This was the livery that year
Image

But this is how it ended up..... (the year of the Rock)

Image

For those o/s not really aware of what happened here is the story of the rock. (starts 2 minutes 30 in.) The reaction and tears of Dick, the generosity of the fans, and the gesture of Edsel Ford.

DJR Bathurst 1000 tribute livery revealed

I guess it is technically retro but I thought we were going for something more exciting. I guess the Shell sponsorship is the key though.

The livery is a nod to the EL Falcon driven by Dick and son Steven in 1998, their first time sharing a car in the Bathurst 1000 so I suppose it is historically significant and keeps Shell happy..

Well, anything that is over 20 years old can be called "vintage". Plus you can see this livery actually looks like it was hand-painted. Most modern liveries are glorified Paintshop ideas without much stylish input.

Btw, I'm just watching some 1984 & 1985 ATCC races and Johnson has dropped the blue livery for some hideous green one. It's strange since he's got the same Steel Tubs sponsorship so what happened, the owner of that company changed? No wonder the blue Falcon is more iconic, the green version doesn't even look that green on VHS quality picture anymore.

Tru-Blu and Greens-'tuf were both brands within Palmer Tube Mills. Initially I know with the Blue car the history of that says that it was built out of second hand bits and the shell from an ex Police Highway Patrol car! which they build up in his garage at home. (Dick back then was a small service station owner. When Dick was building the car his brother took over running the petrol / service station.).
In Dicks words...
"We built the XD in the garage at home; myself, Roy (McDonald who became the first employee of DJR. EB note) and my brother Dave, who was actually running my service station then because I had left to work on the car full time.
"The rules only allowed standard wishbones and pickup points and so on, and there were only certain modifications you could do to the suspension – fat springs and sway bays and shock absorbers – but we got a really good handle on it. We spent a lot of time making sure there was no excess weight in the car.

Basically "The Rock" is what launched DJ.... he ended up with $40,000 pledged by a sorry for him community, and the same again from Edsel Ford who had said he would match the public donation. On top of that I believe Ford Aus helped with parts (the cars as mentioned were standard-ish) and indeed tossed in a new bodyshell so they built Tru-Blu#2. Palmer Tube Mills also felt sorry and put in $50000 to run the car for the year (initially the first car was backed with $10,000 from Ross Palmer.

What helped was that Ross Palmer had taken over the family steel business and taken it from a a half million turnover company in 1978/9 to one turning over $300 million by the mid eighties

DJR of course made hay with a well funded team. Spare engine and gearbox. New parts when needed. Life was suddenly good. It enabled him to fight the factory HDT Holdens etc.

The new car was built even lighter and right on the weight limit at a time when people were less attentive about weight than Dick was. He ued to fill the car with fuel when they were weighed in scrutineering.... not that Dick was cheating but it hid the 100kg diet his car had had and put him in with the pack weightwise..

For 1983 Palmer Mills had launched a new product they were pushing called Greens-tuf and that was what he wanted to promote.
Of course in 1983 the Green Car famously went off at Forest Elbow and into the trees at Bathurst. Although it was patched up for the race Green Machine #2 was built straight after.

Of course DJ continued with a Green car from the Group C Falcon into the first Mustang years. That Mustang carried Palmer Tube Mills on the side and Greens-tuf on the bonnet.

Image

So short summary yeah it was just two different brands within Palmer Tubes Mills dictated the blue and green colour variation.

It also is a good repro of the back in the day livery......only difference of note is a blue rear wing on the original with red on the current. top pic the original EL Falcon at Bathurst in 1998

Image

And this years version on the Mustang. It has the blue on the sill and bottom of rear guard not seen on the orig. Pretty accurate though

More retro specials / special Bathurst liveries being unveiled....

Boost / Erebus are one and both cars will be sporting a more black base ....both the #9 entry of Will Brown/Jack Perkins and the #99 of Brodie Kostecki/David Russell will both carry the look,

The #9 has scrubbed up pretty well, and contrary ton expections will be running for Will Brown and Jack Perkins final pre event run at Winton today.

........also today that of the Chris Pither and Cameron Hill Coca Cola PremiAir car.
Pither/Hill’s #22 Commodore will feature a livery inspired by the Coca-Cola Commodore VR which claimed a podium finish in the 1995 Great Race driven by Wayne Gardner and Neil Crompton.

My popinion.... still boring as.

Also Team 18 has revealed a fresh livery which will be run on the #20 Scott Pye / Tyler Everingham Commodore. Alspec is new and they will take over naming rights from Nulon. Tweaks have been made to the colour scheme, with the Alspec logo visible on the car’s side, while the splitter and drivers’ race suits feature flashes of green.
