Bottom post of the previous page:

The rain we had has screwed a lot of people for qualifying for Hyperpole. Fortunate for the #8 there are only 5 Hypercars so with first 6 per class going through they made it. They spent the first half hour of the session working on the rear of the car... then the red flag and rain after.
The only car not to make it through in GTE Pro was the Ferrari run by Riley Motorsports (that SVG is one of the drivers of). :sorrow:

I think this is the first Le Mans in like 4 or 5 years where I am not busy with work over the weekend! Really looking forward to an old school all-(kinda)nighter.

Indeed, it seems it is being reported as driver error. I am sure by now if there had been any issue with a car problem it would have been mentioned. His record of damaging cars has not been good. Was it last years Ricard 4 hours he got marched to the stewards aand found at fault for an ambitious move on a competitor that resulted in the other cars DNF.

This is the relevant part of his Le Mans incident from the DSC report
Michael Fassbender lost the rear of the #93 Proton Competition Porsche under heavy braking going into the first Mulsanne chicane, a big frontal shunt to the driver’s right Armco red flagging the session. Seemingly a driver error, the Irish Bronze driver was thankfully unhurt.

FP3 is on now.... the link that @erwin greven posted is showing live the Eurosports 2 coverage..
http://rc.freestreams-live1.com/eurosport2-tv/

I was only able to get a mute (no sound) version but got round it by running the Radio Le Mans live audio commentary feed in the background.
You can find that here: http://player.radiolemans.co/. Choose the RS1 feed.

Good luck. Enjoy

LIVE | Race 1 | Road To Le Mans | Michelin Le Mans Cup (English)

Just a heads up @erwin greven and @Cheeveer plus others interested, the Road to Le Mans Race 1 is being shown live shortly on youtube.

Starts in exactly one hour from now. (Reminder on the link set!)

http://lemanscup.com/en/
The Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place over six rounds, with drivers and teams competing to decide who will become champion. Five of the events will be 2-hour races on the same weekends as the European Le Mans Series, with the special event "Road To Le Mans" acting as the curtain raiser before the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Among the GT3 that can compete in the series are the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, the Audi R8 LMS, the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, and the new 488 GT3, and the Porsche 911 GT3R, though teams can also enter eligible cars from manufacturers such as Bentley, BMW, Lamborghini, Lexus, Dodge, Corvette, Nissan, McLaren and Mercedes Benz.

Now been reported by Porsche to have been caused by a rear disc breaking caused the car to snap out of line rather than Crashbender's error.

Hmmmm Alpine sandbagging? I know they got a bit of BoP benefit late on this week, but the slowest Hypercar all week, 10kph down on the straight has just on (provisional) pole with 5 minutes to go.

.... but lap time deleted.....

Driver banned from Le Mans after string of incidents

A driver has been banned from competing in the remainder of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans after three separate crashes.

Philippe Cimadomo, a Bronze-rated 62-year old, has been prohibited from taking any further part in the event “for the safety of himself and other competitors”.

Le Mans debutant Cimadomo was entered in the LMP2 class for TDS Racing, sharing the #13 :haha: with Mathias Beche and Tijmen van der Helm.

Following a string of incidents in practice and qualifying, the decision was made upon the recommendation of race director Eduardo Freitas.

The most recent of those incidents was a spin into the barriers in Practice 3 leaving the car with significant damage, with the team reverting to a spare chassis.

No news yet whether TDS Racing will source a replacement driver for the #13 entry.

Image
Philippe Cimadomo’s Practice 3 crash.
Stewards decision in full:
The Stewards of the 24 Hours of Le Mans received a report from the Race Director in accordance with Art 10.1.1 of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Supplementary Regulations, regarding the driver, Philippe Cimadomo. The Stewards summoned (Document 64) the Driver and Team Manager and heard from the driver. The Stewards also heard from the FIA appointed Driver Advisor to the Stewards, Yannick Dalmas.

The Driver caused an accident in FP1 and nearly caused an accident also in FP1 at Pit Entry. Further he lost control during FP3 and suffered a significant accident.

Further, the observation and opinion of the Driver Advisor is that the Driver is not driving to the standard required to safely participate in the remainder of the Event, especially in consideration of the specificity of the Le Mans circuit and competition, and the specifics of an LMP2 car in this specific situation.

The Driver explained to the Stewards that he has competed in LMP2 cars previously in ELMS without incident, and the incidents during FP1 and FP3 represented momentary lapses. Further, he stated that he felt that he had gained experience throughout the practice sessions and felt more confident in his capacity to compete. However, the Stewards have concluded that a pattern exists that cannot be ignored at this time.

Therefore, on the recommendation of the Race Director, for the safety of himself and other competitors the Stewards prohibit Philippe Cimadomo from taking part in the remainder of the Competition, under the power of the Stewards in Art. 11.9.3.k. of the International Sporting Code.

The Stewards make special note that this decision is based on this specific situation and is only valid at this time. No inference should be drawn as to the driver’s capacity to compete in competitions in the future.

The Competitor is reminded that this decision of the Stewards is subject to appeal under the International Sporting Code, however it is not subject to the suspensive effect in accordance with Art. 12.3.3.b.

Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 16.1.6 of 2022 LeMans 24H Sporting Regulations, Article 15.1.5 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Article 9.1.1 and 10.1 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.
