Lol Mazepin got the Fastest lap.

And the race positions were exactly the same at the finish as the start, with no DNF's

This to me is below Indy 2005.
Sorry that is BS.

In 2005 the FIA was inept to solve a problem
Today they tried to race, but if the FIA thinks it is not safe enough, they won't start. Its very easy to sit behind your keyboard and point your finger to the FIA. But this is one of the fastest tracks on the calendar, and how many times the word "Eau Rouge" has been combined with "crash in..."???

Yeah and how many other global series moved their race to Monday?

I'm not questioning their decision whether or not to race today, the answer to that is obvious. But to award points and call it a race that someone "won" is a joke.

They're essentially giving points for qualifying, which I actually think is the fairest thing to do. Otherwise they all busted out that fantastic qualifying session risking their necks for nothing.

Half points, fair.

Double points finish for Williams. Again!.

positions 1-8 all different manufacturers!

Ferrari the only other team aside from Williams with two cars in the top ten.

Don't forget that a lot of circuits run on volunteers. The marshal posts are mostly volunteers who have to work the next day.

What is pissing me off that they couldn't start the race at noon and just dump the support races.

I know the answer to that - TV Money and TV contracts. But still.

Today was never a race... at best it was a contrived demonstration run, where no one was allowed to pass another car. It was not a competitive event... the definition of a race being a competitive event.

Maybe it's time the 'pinnacle of motorsports' has its own dedicated marshall crew? Volunteers are okay for club racing but if that's the reason for not moving a race to Monday like how NASCAR does, then that's reflects pretty poorly for a series like F1.

Anyway, this is not excusable in the slightest. If I were a paying spectator at the track, I'd want my money back AND a free ticket to next year's race or another race.

I reckon they'll probably do precisely that. Luckily the spirit in the grandstands seemed pretty high. Top fans, making the most of a crappy situation.

At least they got to see a cracking F3 race.. if they got there early enough 🤗

NASCAR Xfinity was just postponed from Friday evening to Saturday noon-ish.

How can fucking 'murican southerners organize motorsport better than the FI-fucking-A?!

And how many marshals do you want to fly all around the world? 10? 50? 100? How much do you want to pay them? 1500 a month? That will be 150000 a month, times 12... 1,800,000 a year. Add food, trucks for housing...

Can we skip the 'rate the race' thread this week? There wasn't a race.. no need to ask everyone if they agree.

I'm still in favour of half points. I actually think that they should change the rules so that half points are awarded even if zero laps are completed, just to prevent all the practice and qualifying that came before it from being deemed completely pointless.. literally.
