Very sad to hear yesterday that the legendary british Muso and R&B legend Spencer Davis passed away aged 81,
Spencer Davis had met The Windwood brothers (15 year old Steve and older bro 'Muff') and asked them to join / set up a band, the Spencer Davis Group back in the early sixties with drummer Pete York.
I remember well their first single, Keep on Running, one of my first ever record purchases with my pocket money as a pre-pubescent kid at boarding school back c 1965
Musically a huge influence, and of course Stevie Winwood went on to other projects such as Traffic and future greatness.
Definitely one of my favourite bands of the time, along with the Stones, The Who, Cream, The Kinks , Steve Marriot (Small Faces) etc etc.
RIP Spencer Davis. May he Keep on Running.

Saw them live in the mid eighties, w/o Stevie of course who was already too big with his solo success. Great energy!
