BATHURST 12 HOUR STREET PARADE TODAY.

FOLLOWING the successful debut of the first ever street parade for Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour cars in 2019, the annual Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour Town to Track goes bigger than ever today in Bathurst.

In what is set to be a memorable way to commence Australia’s International endurance event, this year the entire 40-car field will tour from the circuit to Russell street in Bathurst’s city centre.

Once there, the cars and stars of the race will be on display to fans for several hours, with an autograph session and driver Q & A sessions to take place once cars are in place.

Under police escort and led by the Mercedes-AMG Safety Car, 12-Hour cars will leave pit lane at 10:45am and complete a slow lap of the circuit itself prior to exiting the track onto Panorama Avenue.

The parade will turn left onto Brilliant Street and then right onto George Street heading towards the city proper, arriving at approximately 11am.

The approximately 3.5-kilometre drive will then see the field then turn right into Russell street where all 40 cars will be parked in two rows in the middle of the street.

Drivers will be available to meet fans and sign autographs before departing Russell Street at 1.30pm and returning to the circuit, via William Street and Panorama avenue.

Fans are encouraged to line the route to see the same cars and drivers set to tackle the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour in the flesh on public roads.
As an aside each car will be temporarily road registered for the day to allow them to be driven on public roads from the circuit to the city, and back.

Some driver news, nothing major, but a change from what has been posted....

Broc Feeney will replace Jake Camilleri aboard the No.91 MARC Cars entry for this weekend’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

Business commitments have precluded Camilleri from joining co-drivers Nick Percat and Aaron Cameron, with Feeney set to step in to the seat.

Last year’s Super3 series winner, it will be Feeney’s second outing in a MARC Car after he competed at the Gold Coast last year as part of the Australian GT Championship.

Also GWR Australia’s drivers for this weekend have been confirmed.....team owner Garth Walden joining Brett Hobson and Kurt Kostecki in the Hobson Motorsport Nissan GT-R.

Kurt’s brother, Jake Kostecki, was originally slated to drive the car, but a late withdrawal due to other commitments opened the door for Walden to line up for his seventh start in the event, albeit not since 2014. He has won his class twice previously though, back in 2008 and again in 2009 driving a Commodore.

P1, a session for only non-Gold or Platinum rated drivers ended up with a red flag.

Fastest time of the session went to Josh Burdon in a KCMG Racing Nissan GTR, but after setting the fastest time it was he who brought out the red flag when he had an incident at the top of the Mountain at Reid Park. The car was damaged quite severely on the leht hand rear, and was being assessed with thoughts on whether it will be repairable for the race.

Results: Practice 1

10 27 Hub Auto Corsa Marcos Gomes Ferrari 488 GT3 PRO 2:10.9671

EDIT:

Sadly the KCMG Nissan of Josh Burdon crashed as above, the car was to severely damaged and has been officially been retired.
“After further inspection and also together with the scrutineers unfortunately we had to make the decision that it’s not repairable, so we’ve retired the car,” team manager Ian Geekie confirmed.

“The damage to the rear lower chassis area is much more than we thought, and because of the construction of everything it needs to go on a specific jig, which we obviously don’t have here and the panel shop who kindly offered to help us also doesn’t have.

“It’d be a very time consuming job to even try to get it back straight and then there were going to be question marks over the integrity of the chassis.

“From a safety point of view we took the decision that that’s it.”
Sadly that sees former race winner (2015) Katsumasa Chiyo scheduled to co drive the car, will not take part in the race.

The professional drivers had their first session in P2 and times came down a couple of secs over P1.
The No.999 of Maxi Bhuk has topped it from the No.222 Audi and the No.77 Mercedes.

P3 started with temperatures hitting 35 C.

Times were a little slower than P2, and fastest at the end of P3 was Kenny Habul!

P4, the final practice session of the day is on now

Scott Dixon apparently had a big spin across the top of the mountain fortunately missing everything and everyone.

Currently Marciello has the fastest time of P4 with his AMG Merc with a 2:04.9404s, and temperatures have crept up a bit, currently 38C

P4 Van Gis goes fastest

van Gisbergen fastest from De Pasquale, van der Linde, and Mies.

T888 Racing has delivered a one-two finish in practice
The Aussie team finished 1-2 after four sessions on the Mountain today to show their true form ahead of qualifying tomorrow and Sunday’s around-the-clock enduro.

Supercars champion and former 12-hour winner Shane van Gisbergen set the fastest time of the day in his Mercedes AMG GT3, to be shared this weekend by Supercars teammate Jamie Whincup, and German ace Maximilian Goetz.

Teammate for the weekend, Anton de Pasquale, followed closely behind to give the Aussie team a lockout at the top of an ultra-competitive field after the first day of on-track action on the Mountain.

South African Kelvin van der Linde was third in the first Audi entry. In the scorching high 30's conditions, non-turbo cars dominated proceedings with Mercedes-AMG, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini entries filling the top-10 positions in practice.

SVG Claims nice but others are sandabagging.

Shane believes that he was one of few doing low fuel fresh tyre runs, in a full qualy simulation, so does not believe he has a real pace advantage, with his o/s experience telling him come qualifying will be the time others give it their all. He expects many of the Euro teams to be well in the mix come qualifying.

Image

Practice 5 will be held on Saturday morning, starting at 08:45 local time/AEDT, before a two-part qualifying beginning at 12:40 and the Top 10 Shootout from 17:05
Shane van Gisbergen expects the field to close the gap to Triple Eight Race Engineering after the Mercedes-AMG squad topped Practice 4 at the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

Van Gisbergen and Anton De Pasquale ended the second first and second respectively after an enthralling tussle in the closing minutes of the session.

While enthusiastic about his own team’s performance, van Gisbergen warns that the rest of the field has not shown its full hand.

“We’re probably the only ones not sandbagging,” van Gisbergen said following Practice 4.

“So our two cars are up the front, low fuel, new tyres; other teams won’t be doing that yet.

“It feels good for now, and we’ve got a good handle on what the car will be doing, but very different style to the Europeans; they’ll be hanging out ‘til quali.

“A good start but as I said, no one will be flat out,” he added, “everyone will be playing. That’s the way this racing is unfortunately. Everyone will catch up.”

Practice 4 saw the fastest times of the weekend thus far, with van Gisbergen the first, and so far only, driver to dip below the 2:04s barrier.

The New Zealander recorded a 2:03.9649s late in proceedings to finish just over two tenths clear of De Pasquale in the sister Triple Eight entry.

De Pasquale had been fastest, and a late run saw the Erebus Supercars regular set a series of rapid times in the closing stages only to ultimately be pipped by van Gisbergen.

Mercedes entries featured prominently in Friday’s final practice session, with five of the three-point star’s machines inside the Top 10.

There's been some big dramas in final practice, the Bentley #8 had a braking issue going into the Chase and it speared across the track and into a tire wall which was only just added for this race. Then right as the red flags were coming out the #27 Ferrari lost it coming over McPhillamy and slammed into the wall at Skyline. Both drivers are OK thankfully.

And practice 5 started with red flags for a skippy track invasion!

Image

The red flags were called just seconds after the 60-minute session began as multiple kangaroos jumped onto the circuit on Mountain Straight.

Rather than simply crossing the track, two of the roos continued on the circuit up towards the Cutting, with the comical site of the GT3 machinery crawling along behind.
“I came over the crest and everybody was stopped,” recounted five-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, who is making his Bathurst debut aboard a Castrol-backed Aston Martin.

“I thought one of the cars had hit the wall then saw the kangaroos running along the track.

“I felt bad for them. They had nowhere to go and were just running in front of the cars.”
While no kangaroos were injured, the stoppage lasted almost 30 minutes before the track was deemed safe to resume.

Teams did not lose track time due to the delay, with the session extended to allow the originally scheduled 60 minutes of running.

Wouldn't br Bathurst without a few skippies!

Looks like the Bentley will miss qualy, but will be fixed in time for the race with a rear of grid start.

Temperatures are a hot 38C at the moment, and the red fags that bought the session to an early end meant many of the teams did not get in a qualy sim.

That left an Audi top of the tree in P5 with a lap from 2018 race winner Dries Vanthoor going quickest in the #2 Audi R8 LMS GT3 in 2:03.4430.

Finishing order and times in P5 as follows.

This current session sets the grids for GT4 and the Invitational Class, while giving class A vehicles a chance to tune their cars and drivers further, ahead of the second session.

Qualifying two commences at 13:35pm, runs for 30 minutes and is solely for Class A cars.

The ten fastest times will qualify for the pole shootout. This starts at 5:05pm with the 10 fastest cars from Qualifying two running in reverse order.
