This game is a neverending hunt for mods - whether it be an obscure track or a long-forgotten car, there's always something I'm trying to look for. I swear it's a disease.

You can use a keyboard, but to be precise and competitive you need a wheel and pedals.

Xbox One controllers are compatible if you already have one laying around, and work well. That's what I use - I haven't ruled out the idea of getting a wheel and pedals one day, but I have too many other hobbies and projects to make that commitment right now. I personally don't mind the controller, and I've found after time, you can be quite smooth with movements.

Jacques V. was pretty fast with a controller when he ran an online race a few weeks ago.

it sounds good. I mean, don't get me wrong: for immersive experience, a wheel is obviously best.
but setting it up, removing it, etc. - always such a hassle.

does the Xbox One controller offer good precision?

if yes - you may expect me to join one of your races.
what are some of the best F1 mods?

just to be sure: can you link what controller to buy? (I notice a big difference in a wired one vs. wireless one)

You barely need to set up a wheel. Most games deliver default setups for the wheel.

I mean from a practical point of view: attaching the wheel, detaching it, ...

Yes, I would love a wheel for my racing games but there isn't anywhere in the house that I could leave it set up permanently, or store it for the 23 hours of the day it wouldn't be used.

most of the time I use the computer for non-racing purposes.
it means having to attach and detach the device all the time + I seem to sit too far from the (laptop) screen when using a wheel.

Just get a proper "game" Project Cars 2.

There is no point in playing games like AC or rF2 unless you have a wheel. Reason being:

1. The AI sucks on most circuits. The developers never found a way to fix it.
2. Online racing also sucks unless you join a league. And you would be outclassed by anyone who has a wheel.

A steering wheel is a good investment, even a cheap one. As long as it is a wheel. Find a second hand G25 or G29.

I have been hotlapping the RUF Yellowbird lately. I can confirm that even in AC, it drives like this.

I am down to a 7:37 now though, which is almost 10 seconds faster than Jimmy Broadbent's time from his YT channel. I reckon I could shave off another second or two if I can have an even tidier lap.

I drove over 600km on the Nurburgring yesterday in the 962C Short Tail. It was so hot in my apartment I thought I was going to pass out.

The great thing is, I managed to break the 6:11 mark, beating Bellof (and Jimmy Broadbent's) best times. But damn, it was tough. One lap was guaranteed to be a 6:10.8xx but I lost all the time in the final three corners after the long, long straight. I was so gutted.

So the best lap I filmed was a 6:11.071, and I have a replay of my 6:10.9. I need to compare and find out where I lost time because I was driving on the edge.

Good job! It's rewarding when you see the progress over time/laps.

Hadn't noticed my server crashed, it is up again looping Nordschleife.
