As I said above Ian (Pete) Geoghegan was Max's Grandfather, not Father. Max's Father Chris Geoghegan who is in his fifties, was one of Ian's two sons.
Yeah, I know it was the grandson. It's just that Dick Johnson's grandson is in Super2 and guess I thought he (Dick) was somewhat younger than Ian Geoghegan. But there were only six years difference between them which is much less than I thought (hence I expected Geoghegan's grandson to be in like early 30s by now).

The ARG SpeedSeries season ended on the weekend at the Bathurst International.

Josh Buchan ended up wrapping up the title for TCR Australia. Santiago Urrutia, Norbert Michelisz and Yann Ehrlacher won the TCR races and I guess that was the first time a Uruguayan has won a race in Australia. (George Fury probably qualifies as the first Hungarian to win an Australian race)

James Moffat won the Trans-Am series but almost lost the title in the final race as his transmission pump was knocked off by some debris while he was leading the race causing a major oil leak. Luckily they were able to stop it leaking and send him back out to finish the race. It was a bit Bathurst 1977 with smoke pouring out of his car while he was in the lead.

There was a really strange incident for Mikael Azcona in the TCR World Tour, he had a steering issue and his car just drove into the wall coming out of Forrest's Elbow under the safety car. I was thinking he'd passed out when I first saw it because there's no way you'd crash in the way he did if you had control of yourself or the car.

Some of the racing was pretty good but the crowd looked very small, it looked like maybe a quarter of the 12 Hour crowd if that.

Talking of the Speedseries one of the biggest let downs and reasons for the lack of support this last year was the lack of FTA TV. To follow it in any depth meant taking out a Stan Streaming Subscription. It seems the takeoff was not to the level expected and Teams and Sponsors basically said without FTA TV is was unsustainable as a series.

The good news is that is no longer the case for 2024.

SpeedSeries returning to free TV

Major national racing is set to return to free TV next year in a new broadcast deal for the Shannons SpeedSeries. The SpeedSeries will be shown live and free on the Seven Network.

All 10 rounds in 2024 are to be aired on 7Plus, Seven’s free streaming service.

It’s also understood selected events – or at least portions of – will be shown on secondary digital free-to-air channel 7mate.

The new agreement, brokered by Motorsport Australia, ends the two-year experiment of screening the major second-level categories – including ARG’s TCR and Trans Am – on Nine-affiliated subscription streamer Stan Sport.

Despite extensive coverage with high production values, viewership has been low because most fans rejected paying a full subscription to Stan to gain access to motorsport content.

Stan Sport also provides exclusive live and on demand coverage of IndyCar, WRC and WEC.

Despite two hours of free live broadcasts on 9Go or 9Gem this year, competitors and sponsors cited a fall-off in interest and demanded a return to FTA broadcasts.

Motorsport Australia, which sanctions and promotes the SpeedSeries, has taken back broadcasting rights from Australian Racing Group, which did the Stan Sport deal under its previous regime.

Reputedly, Stan Sport paid for multi-year rights, but the agreement has been deemed unsustainable and canned for a return to an FTA broadcaster.

MA is finalising arrangements to switch coverage to Seven platforms next year, extending an existing relationship that sees the Australian Rally Championship and Australian Off-Road Championship shown on the network.

Seven will re-stake its claim as the FTA ‘Home of Motorsport’, adding the SpeedSeries to its live telecasts of six Supercars events and delayed highlights of the other six rounds.

There is also scope for Channel 7 to boost the Bathurst International’s prominence with live coverage on the main channel and 7mate across the weekend.

Sadly the Easter Bathurst 6 hour is not included being ARG owned.

It’s a standalone event without TCR or Trans Am, with a broadcast deal yet to be announced.

The Bathurst 6 Hour is back this weekend. 61 cars are entered in the main race and there are six support categories running. Not sure if there will be any coverage outside of Australia but a fair chunk of the weekend including the entirety of the main race will be shown live on SBS in Australia.

That article is from last year, it doesn't look like the speed series website is showing the race this year.

And the highly fancied on past form Sherrin BMW in the kitty litter at Skyline after a mid contact on lap 1 brings out a short SC whilst it was recovered. They rejoined albeit a lap down.

No SC but 6 laps in a Lexus Coupe got turned round on the exit to the elbow., leaving it broadside on the inside of the trck. No SC as the Lexus was able to rejoin albeit at the tail of the field having wited for trraffic to pass before being able to rejoin at a blind point of the track.

It is pretty warm, they say the hottest temperatures for many years, and already one of the leading BMWs in showing engine too hot warning lights on, so he has backed off from the car in front to allow a bit of airflow and uninterrupted cooling.

BMWs position 1-6 atm, Davo leading from Thomas Randle who is keen to pass Davo but cant quite do the job. Trying hard though and signs of contact on the rear bumper of Davo. Crick 3rd from Medieke Everingham and Smollen.

We have another SC for a car stopped on track going up from the Cutting and we are seeing the first stops for the leaders to top off with fuel. Minimum 90 seond pit stop time (I think thats 90 secs from pit in to pit out, not 90 seconds stopped. To quick by even half a second is I think a DTP.)

Seeing a few driver change including Beric Lynton into the leading car

#43 Astra that stopped on track is now on the back of the flatbed and we should be back to green shortly. They had to do an engine change over the weekend but it seems it has now had a clutch failure.
