Indeed. Actually, every Indycar race on an oval where no one is badly hurt.

I would actually list Ricciardo's victory as a happy moment. Not the happiest, but nice to see nice guys do well.

One happy moment was witnessing Alex Zanardis Oschersleben victory, for sure.
But the most happy, yet sad and shivering moment throughout all these years watching motorsport was May, 17th 2008 when I watched Michael Dunlop winning the 250cc race at the NorthWest 200, just two days after his dad Robert (Joeys younger brother) had been killed in a practice spill at the same meeting.

More recent happy moments: Ian Hutchinsons comeback victory at the Macau Motorcycle GP last year after what was close to a leg amputation following his Silverstone crash in 2010. And the Mad Sunday parade at TT 2014 in honour of Simon Andrews, who died following a spill at the 2014 Northwest 200. Happy, because for once people did not kill themselves riding the Mountain Course at idiotic speeds for road bikes but gathered to honour Simon Andrews in what was reportedly the longest lap of honour the Mountain Course has seen in its history.

Has to be watching Dan Wheldon win his 2nd (and sadly, final) Indy 500 in 2011; as a young but long-time fan of his who would've never expected him to be out of a full-time drive that year, it was such a special moment seeing him take the win, and in such dramatic fashion as well. Knowing what went down in Las Vegas later that year just makes that moment all the more special to me.

That was certainly James Allen, F1 commentator favourite moment. There would have been much cleaning up in the studio following 'his excitement'.

Shades of being at the supermarket and hearing "Cleanup in Aisle 5".....

I have this random caption thing that any video sometimes displays on my computer until I click the X in its box. Some of it is quite amusing.
In this video it says "So they said he might never win a grocery. He's dead. Jenson Button....." :haha:

In more recent times, who wouldn't have been happy to see Mercedes finally win a race in 2022 in Brazil, better still that it was Russell's first win after so much promise.

Even if it was tainted by the events of 9/11 and Alex Zanardi losing his legs at Lausitz.

That last one was my fault, I really thought Lewis was going to win the title at his attempt, I jinxed him.

I was happy for Kimi after his near-misses in 2003 and 2005. Simple as.

This is a bit not quite as the topic intended, but not worth a new thred and it sort of fits here.

I was actually doing some research on an engine from the late sixties, the Martin V8. It was originally going to be for F1 but for various reasons never made it. It did however get used in Sports cars and the amazing Special Saloons back then.

Part of my searching uncovered a programme from Thruxton in 1971. I was at the race although I dont really remember details of it other than the Martin V8 engine being in Brian Cutting's Escort Special Saloon.

I looked through all the races in the programme on that day. Some of the names and cars just make me realise how fortunate we were back then to have, in terms of such special cars and remarkable fields of at the time up and coming talent.

The F3 race for instance.... three future World Champions, Jones Scheckter and Hunt all running. Plus Purley, Williamson and others.

In the Special saloons we had an Escort with a BRM V12 3 litre engine, plus numerous other big cars and name drivers. Look at Event #6. Also the field was so large we had two special saloon races, one for over 1300cc and one for under. Both grid fillers with reserves.

The Modsports as well, some brilliant cars like John "Plastic" Pearson with his Jag XK 120, Brian Hough with his TVR. Actually just noticed Hough only had a V6 TVR at this event. He went on to run it with a 5.7 litre V8 later. Sadly he lost his life in the V8 car at Thruxton a couple of years later at a meeting I was also at. It was one of my hero cars. (below)

Happy Days.

Anyway here is the programme: https://www.progcovers.com/motor/thruxton711017.pdf
