I've bought John Surtees' autobiography published in 1991. The epilogue ends with the following words...

And if Henry John should one day say, 'Dad, I'd like some help to go motor cycle racing' I would like to think I could give him as much help as my father gave me in those early years. To a large extent, of course, it will be his decision - or her decision, if it should be one of the girls! I just hope that some of the highs and lows that I have experienced in life will enable me to give them a helping hand in the right direction.
