Bottom post of the previous page:

Taupo is on this weekend and of course the big news is that Brodie is back at Erebus, although it seems not by choice but more by legal threats from the undoutedly toxic Erebus. workplace.

It is now revealed that midway through the 2023 Supercars season, Kostecki and his teammate Will Brown approached Erebus Motorsport owner Betty Klimenko with concerns about the team's environment....

Reports are now coming out that the Brodie fallout actually started from before Taupo when Brodie did his NASCAR excursion. It seems Erebus went from being keen on the deal and putting money up to help Brodie get the deal, signing up as financial supporters. Threy then changed their mind and were opposing his NASCAR, subseuently withdrawing their financial support. Their backing was said to be just over $10000 but it left BK with a funding shortfall and was money Brodie then had to find late in the day to supplement his Boost Mobile X and other Wrebus backers like Shaw and Thompson.

Interesting that the initial renders of the car showed Erebus stickers, those not present a week later.

Additionally it has been said Barry Ryan actually quit the team at the end of the season, before Brodie announced he wanted out but it didnt happen and he was reinstated. Then was when Brodie said he wanted out. The internal promotion to create a Team Principal was indeed as thought, to be an attempt to create a space between Brodie and Barrie.

It is said Erebus offered Brodie three options at the time, one being to buy out his own contract. Another was to not race for anyone and take a year out. The other option being to see out his contract and drive for Erebus. Then Erebus apparently withdrew the offer of Brodie being able to buy out his contract.

Of the two options left it seems Brodie chose to sit out the year... hence the announcement he would not be at the opening rounds and the instatement of Hazlewood as a sub. Having been offered that (tking a sabbatical) as an option Kostecki was subsequently threatened by Erebus Motorsport with litigation in early February for damages if he terminated his driving contract. Erebus Motorsport alleged Kostecki's communications with sponsors led them to pull support.

I believe the final outcome of Brodie returning was a compromise negotiated between Betty Klimenko and Paul Morris with no involvement from Barry.

Sponsors say they left because of the toxic environment and allegations contrary to their interests. A loss of both of the drivers was an issue, They also spoke of raised concerns about serious allegations from multiple sources which they claimed were causational factors in Kostecki's efforts to split with the team.

The sponsors said their decision to leave was not based on one singular complaint.

They also said they were frustrated and expected the sport to have a responsibility to investigate allegations that it knew about.

They said Kostecki's return to the team made those issues moot and that the lack of an investigation had left serious claims unexamined.

The sponsors said they couldn't have their brand associated with the team while allegations went unchecked and that the absence of an investigation had left them open to ridicule.

The sponsors also said they were kept in the dark by the team and were only told by Erebus Motorsport that Kostecki would miss the season opener shortly before it was made official publicly.

So to say Erebus is a toxic environment is perhaps an understatement . I guess any smiles we see within Erebus are all in reality very fake.

V8 qualifying at Taupo about to start. Just the knockout stage with the shootout being run later this morning.
The track is mildly moist.... more damp with a dry line. There is still a chance of further rain. Cars will be keen to gt a quick lap on th board in case the rain comes

Some notables not making the shootout, Kostecki and Feeney Reynolds Stanaway Golding all out of the ten.
Everyone was talking Stanaway up as a wet weather master.... he showed none of those skills today and was almost the slowest on track, unlike his team mate Matt Payne.

Payne ended fastest and with Provisional pole at the end of the session, although that cycled through a number of drivers all taking a turn at the top before Payne took the place back late in the session..

The top 10 go through to the shootout in this order

1 Payne
2 De Pasquale
3 Mostert
4 Davison
5 Hill
6 Wood
7 Brown
8 Waters
9 Heimgartner
10 Slade

Grid positions 11th down to 24th

11 Randle
12 Fullwood
13 Feeney
14 Jones
15 Kostecki
16 Le Brocq
17 Evans
18 Courtney
19 Winterbottom
20 Love
21 Reynolds
22 Golding
23 Stanaway
24 Percat

As soon as qualy finished the rain has come. They just got qualy in before it came in, with just a couple of minutes to spare.

Shootout starts in an hour and a quarter. If the rain stops that will advantage the quicker guys running later in the shootout as the track dries with each car running.

Shootout under way and its now fully wet and oerhaps getting wetter as we continue

After the first five the order is as follows

Waters
Brown
Heimgartner
Slade
Wood

Davison is now on track but a big moment for him and he ends up 7th with Mostert out next as conditions worsen, as he drops in ahead of Davison.

ADP next up and he drops in slower than Mostert but ahead of Davison. Its certainly getting wetter and I dont see last man out Matt Payne managing to do any better given the state of the track.

Great lap from Payne and he manages to slot in ahead of ADP and Davison.

So Cam Waters takes the pole by dint of a earlier run before the track got weetter.

The top 10 on the grid is therefore is therefore:

1 Waters

2 Brown

3 Heimgartner

4 Slade

5 Wood

6 Hill

7 Mostert

8 Payne

9 De Pasquale

10 Davison

11-24 is as per the earlier post.

Todays race seems to clash pretty much with the F1 Sprint race in China, starting in 2 and a half hours time.

That was stupid. Slade tried to sneak between Brown and Waters and Brown moved left which send Slade into Waters.

Payne also spun in turn 1. SC.

Le Brocq punted Fullwood in Turn 11 to cause a second FCY. Heimgartner cycled into the lead after a round of pitstops under yellow.

Kostecki divebombs Courtney in T1 and takes Reynolds with him. Probably a penalty?

Kostecki got a 15 sec penalty.

Brown has tumbled down the order with apparent tire pressure problem.

Mostert pits from 2nd and rejoins with a loose wheel.

Wheel parted way during the lap too.
