Yeah Chaz was closing but I think too little too late. Catching is one thing, passing a different kettle of fish.

And no rain all race apart from a few spots in parts of the track. Who would have thought that after yesterday and given the forecast.

It seems SVG was a bit damaged himself (not the car)

Must have been a big night celebrating..... it happened this morning :drunk:

Van Gisbergen walks out of live TV interview to vomit after Bathurst celebrations :haha: :haha:
Shane van Gisbergen has disappeared from a live television interview to vomit the morning after his Repco Bathurst 1000 win.

Van Gisbergen and Tander fronted up for an interview on Monday morning with Channel 9 breakfast television show, Today.

However, the Kiwi only lasted a matter of seconds.

According to Nine, a team representative confirmed the 33-year-old went to go vomit.

“We were quick yesterday but not so fast this morning,” laughed Tander.

“I was here,” added van Gisbergen, before stepping out of the camera shot.

Now a five-time Bathurst 1000 winner himself, Tander pushed on with the interview alone.

When asked for an update on van Gisbergen’s condition, Tander said: “I think he’s now curled up in the foetal position in a corner somewhere, so I’m not sure we’re going to hear from him anymore this morning.

“It’s hard work doing a thousand kays around here; it was harder work getting him up this morning

Supercars has released the attendance figures for last weekend’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

A total of 195,578 people attended the four-day event, with over 7,000 campsites filled in the first Great Race since restrictions impacted the 2020 and 2021 editions.

Not bad considering the weather and the forecast

The record attendance of 207,205 still stands, which was set in 2012.

For those that were couch potatoes like me

Sunday’s Bathurst 1000 broke records for the Foxtel Group, with more than 62.5 million minutes streamed.

An average audience of 524,000 tuned in across Kayo Sports and Foxtel’s related streaming platforms.

Seven’s coverage of the race averaged 1.36 million total viewers nationally, including 68,000 on 7plus.

Plus the many overseas viewers, however they managed.

Where do those numbers stand in comparison with other sports in AU? I assume the footy final had more viewers plus some resident rugby and cricket stuff?

Both the NRL and AFL Football matches are more popular by a margin, they both bombed this year in ratings terms compared to past years.

NRL Rugby Grand Final:
The 2022 National Rugby League (NRL) grand final gained an audience of 2.76 million domestic viewers on Australian free-to-air (FTA) broadcaster Channel Nine, the smallest television viewership in the game’s history.

Nine’s coverage of the season finale, which saw the Penrith Panthers overpower the Parramatta Eels in front of 82,415 fans at Sydney Olympic Park on 2nd October, garnered 1.67 million metro viewers in capital cities and 2.37 million viewers nationally.

It marked the first NRL grand final to have an overall television audience below 2.5 million viewers since TV ratings were first collected by Australian firm OzTAM in 1999.

However they did get a record of 389,000 on 9Now streaming service in addition.

AFL (Aussie Rules) Grand Final
Saturday’s AFL Grand Final washout was among the worst viewed in the league’s history, with an average of 3.06 million fans turning into Channel 7’s television coverage nationally.

The Geelong Cats smashed the Sydney Swans by 81 points on Saturday, winning its first flag since 2011 and ending a dominant season on a 16-match winning streak.

But 900,000 fewer people tuned into this year’s final than 2021’s and 750,000 fewer than 2020’s, renewing calls from the broadcaster for the AFL to shift the match to a twilight timeslot.

The massive difference between Channel 7’s average viewership for the match of 3.06 million compared to its 5.76 million audience reach – the total number of people who tune in, even if just for five minutes – suggested many fans tuned out when they saw how one-sided it was.

Unsurprisingly, Melbourne was the biggest city for viewers of the predominately Victorian sport, with 1.1 million fans tuning in. Sydney followed with 375,000 people tuning in, then Perth (300,000), Brisbane (232,000) and Adelaide (207,000).

While viewership for the Grand Final – which included 95,000 tuning in on the 7plus streaming service – was less than usual, the match was still the most watched television program so far in 2022.

Melbourne Cup Horse Race.
Melbourne Cup coverage draws in 1.213m metro viewers
The race that stops the nation aired to a metro audience of 1.213 million metro viewers, and an average of 1.7 million viewers nationally. Ten’s Melbourne Cup coverage had 1.140 million metro viewers in 2020, a slight drop from 2019’s 1.441 million and a significant fall from 2018’s 1.836 million and 2017’s 1.79 million.

I think I read that it was the third highest watched sporting event this year behind the AFL final and the Australian Open's women's final (which was hugely helped by Ash Barty), that's probably the first time it outrated the NRL final.

I recall Smith had a couple of Ralts over time sponsored by Mr Juicy orange juice. He must have had a Toyota link because he was back in Formula Holden in 1990 sponsored by Toyota Lexcen. (The Lexcen was a badge engineered Commodore built locally by Toyota for Aus only.)

Funnily enough he was not Bowes co driver at Bathurst 1988 though he did end up so. DJR had entered 3 cars , the 3rd car for Smith and Costanzo (another open wheeler / sports car driver in the 70's and 80's. Bowe and DJ were entered in the #17 but broke down early. Bowe the jumped into the second #28 DJR car of Gravett and Crichton.... that broke down. So Dick and John took over Smith and Costanzo's #18 car. Actually Costanzo never turned a lap in the car in the race. Nett result is results show 2nd place to the #18 with DJ, Bowe, Smith and Costanzo all credited as drivers.(Costanzo had qualified the car)

No idea what the draw or link to Toyota was though. Maybe as simple as a budget thing.... there was a fairly strong Toyota class, especially at Bathurst which was where his touring car focus was centred. Running a 2 litre car was inexpensive over a bigger class car. I recall reading he still owns one of his Toyotas so if they were his own cars not others.....Maybe he knew someone influential at Toyota I know he owned a Toyota Supra he imported that had been buit by TOMS, and ran that at a Bathurst (1991)
Sadly I also read he was involved in some kind of accident not on track I dont think, but it left him a paraplegic.
@Vassago The Formula Holden I mentioned Smith ran with backing from Toyota Lexcen was racing at the Sandown Historic meeting over the weekend
