In other injury news from Iowa is that AJ Foyt Racing tyre changer Chris McFadden has been released from hospital after being hit by Dalton Kellett in a pit stop.
Initial prognosis was a fractured leg, but McFadden went to hospital where further assessments showed no breakages.... he does have, however, a “deep laceration to his left thigh and significant bruising”, and there is no timeline yet on when he will return to the crew. He was released from hospital Sunday night.
Fellow inside tyre changer Shelby Tracey was also caught up in the incident but escaped injury.
I must say I have always doubted Kelletts ability..... It seems he had a 'multifunctioning malfunction'. Struggled to find neutral and depress the clutch all at the same time whilst braking into the pitbox.
Kellett more or less did say it (getting run over by the driver) is part of the job but the guy he hit will bounce back....
“On the last pit stop, I came in a little hot and just didn’t get it down into neutral quick enough and had an issue grabbing the clutch pedal given the angle going into the box and tagged a couple of the crewmen, just went long,” recounted Kellett.
“So, you know, really feel bad for those guys. It’s part of the job but it’s never easy when someone else has to pay for your mistake.
“Chris has got an injury to his leg. He’ll bounce back and be ready to go in no time.
Best wishes for a speedy return to the tyre guy, and hope he doesnt get bounced around too much in the future. Even though its part of the job.
