Not sure, the race of his crash was the first with the new grippier rear tyre (which Dovi hated). That changed Ducati's fortunes at least, maybe also Honda's to some extent.

The RCV213 struggled with the new rear slick last year (which I'm sort of guessing was the whole point). The interesting thing will be if MM's arm can withstand the forces and repeated pounding of GP racing.

Going to be interesting to see how Marquez will be doing this weekend. Watching MotoGP FP1 over F1 this morning.

Im channel hopping between the two.... 15 minutes left and Marc is P8 (Pol Espargaro is 3rd ) atm so a good opener for MM who said prior he was nervous and had butterflies, unusual for him in normal circumstances. At least it is dry and the rumoured rain never arrived.

Just seen MM is out again and this time his lean angles are higher (now up to 56/57%) so he is clearly getting the feel of it.

OK he has just gone P3 behind Vinales and Bagnaia with 5 to go.

Lol make that P1.... although I reckon Bagnaia is about to obliterate that and the other quick guys are out for a final fling.

Marc was on top of the pile after the checker but got beaten by Vinales and Vins in their final laps. Brilliant comeback though by MM to finish within 0.2 of Vinales quickie at the end.

I dont think he could have hoped for a better P1 than that. Remarkable in the circumstances.

With that half-damp first practice the only conclusion is that the comeback is not premature, if that. The track got a lot better in that last few minutes, Vinales gained 5 tenths in the last sector alone.

Well, MM93 is back! A white knuckle final flying lap which included a near lose and save put him straight into Q2 with a lap that still left him 6th. He was set to go top before his moment. The smile on his face when he got back to the pits said it all.

Hats off to Nakajima as well who suffered a huge crash early in the session flying through the air at over 120MPH..... went to the medical centre, got cleared and came back, nursing an injured shoulder and still managed to qualify for Q2 with a 10th.

Oh yeah Bagnaia topped the session for Ducati.

Yup, he is back. And Honda is right where he left off. So that's two question answered:

Was the comeback with the right timing?
And is the Honda still a Marquez bike only?

Yes to both.

I think the question about Honda being a MM bike was answered once and for all last year already.

Qatar has never been a strong circuit even for Marquez so I'm gonna give Pol E. and Nakagami a pass for looking so bad the first two rounds of the season.

Really nasty crash for Jorge Martin in FP3, seems like he is out for the rest of weekend. Head contusion and bruised limbs.

No replays, but either a heavy fall or a nasty tumble in the turn 7 gravel trap.

He didn’t escape uninjured, with a broken thumb and suspected further fractures to his foot.

He has been transported by air ambulance to hospital in Faro for further checks, but is conscious and suffered no head trauma – an initial concern – team boss Francesco Guidotti confirmed to The Race.
