2009 Calendar

26. April Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg (D)
03. May Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello (I)
17. May EuroSpeedway Lausitz (D)
05. July Norisring (D)
19. July Oschersleben (D)
02. August Circuit Park Zandvoort (NL)
16. August Nürburgring (D)
30. August Brands Hatch (GB)
20. September Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona (E)
04. October Le Mans (F)**
25. October Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg (D)
There's not much info about 2009. We know that Bernd Schneider has retired and it looks like Ralf Schumacher will take that seat. Then there's the vacant Audi seat in ALMS. There have been rumors about both Albers and Legge taking that seat.

New teams in F3 are rumored to be Kolles TME team and Motopark, both will be with VW engines. Jon Lancaster has announced that he will not continue with ART next year in F3, but he will remain in the series. Hulkenberg is doing the same, but he will be moving on to GP2. Apparently the third manufacturer in F3 Euroseries will be Toyota, the team that will be using the engines would be DAMS.

And here are the drivers who tested at Hockenheim after the final round.

Valtteri Bottas - Mucke
Esteban Gutierrez - Mucke
Roberto Mehri - Prema
Stefano Coletti - Prema
Renger Van Der Zande - Prema
Brendon Hartley - Carlin
Tom Dillmann - HBR
Kevin Mirocha - HBR
Laurens Vanthoors - RC Motorsport
Yann Clairay - RC Motorsport

Obviously the driver to follow next year will be Bottas. He dominated the Eurocup. But of course that doesn't guarantee success, just look at Ammermüller, he couldn't even impress in IFM this year.

Errr ok, care to elaborate?

I was reading an article earlier today about who might replace Schneider in the 09 car. Paffett is clear favourite, however Ralf Schumacher's name has been linked with it as well.... Go figure?!

Calendar is fantastic. Its the first time in years that it has continuity. You can´t expand as a series if you keep switching events. Its a major turn off for fans and sponsors. So I think its great.

I would say that Ralf gets the seat. He´s a big star and Mercedes put a lot of effort (which means money) into getting him. And he was promised a new car after a learning year. And as far as I know this is the only vacant seat. Unless they put Di Resta into an open wheeler.

I see the draw of Schumacher for Mercedes so I wouldn't be surprised for him to be promoted. But he must perform like Alesi did. Paffett deserves the seat more, given he's put up with a year old car for the past 2 seasons, won a race, and been top driver in a year old car 2 years running (IIRC). An ex-champion of his calibur does not deserve another year in the midfield.

Well, but that´s not how the world works. Look at Albers or LMS champions (something I rate much higher than DTM) Rocky and Premat. But Schumacher was promised the ride so he will get it, no discussion about it. I would say he gets it now. I don´t see why he should do another year in an old car.

I agree, for sure. I would expect Di Resta to be in GP2 next year and this way both Paffett and Schumacher can be promoted.

Its almost certain that Gary Paffett will move up to the HWA team with an up-to-date car.

Too many cheating Mercedes drivers, especially Jamie Green. Ekstrom all the way!

Good news. F3 Masters goes back to it's rightful home!!!
Autosport.com wrote:Masters to return to Zandvoort

By Glenn Freeman Friday, January 23rd 2009, 15:50 GMT

The Masters of Formula 3 race will return to Zandvoort in 2009 after two years away from the Dutch circuit, autosport.com can reveal.

The renowned event, which along with the Macau Grand Prix attracts a large international entry, had to move to Zolder for 2007 and 2008 due to noise restrictions at Zandvoort.

However, circuit bosses have announced that due to a shake-up in the 2009-10 A1GP calendar, where Zandvoort will move from its usual autumn date to spring 2010, the F3 race can return to its home circuit for this year.

Zandvoort COO Erik Weijers said: "Since the decision by the Dutch supreme court in 2007, we have been working hard to get the Masters of Formula 3 back to Zandvoort.

"The event was founded at Zandvoort back in 1991 and has established a strong heritage. Because of the noise restrictions in The Netherlands, we had to run the previous two events at Zolder in Belgium.

"This turned out to be a good alternative, but all teams and fans agreed: the Masters of Formula 3 belongs at Zandvoort."

This year's race will take place on June 13/14. Previous winners include David Coulthard, Takuma Sato and Lewis Hamilton.
