2021 Bathurst 1000 Festival Nov 30th - Dec 5th

Normally the Bathurst 1000 runs in the first weekend of October, but thanks to Covid restrictions we know the original date has been postponed a couple of times, and the race will now be run as part of a Bathurst Festival of Motor Racing from 30th November through to the big race on Sunday December 5th 2021. Being promoted as the largest ever Motor Sport event in Australia, an exclusive thread is warranted.

This year's Repco Bathurst 1000 will run over six days at Mount Panorama as the final event of the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship.

Officially, the Bathurst International event that had been scheduled for the last weekend of November has been cancelled, with ARG’s full suite of categories being brought onto the 1000 undercard.

All in all, 10 categories will feature across six days at the Mountain: beginning Tuesday, November 30 and culminating in the iconic Great Race on Sunday, December 5.The Bathurst Regional Council, Repco, Supercars and ARG have all joined forces to combine Australasia's leading categories for the biggest motorsport event ever staged in Australia.

The historic first will see Mount Panorama host six-days of on-track entertainment and racing between Tuesday November 30 and Sunday December 5.

This year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 will be the first Great Race to be staged in December.

The six-day Bathurst event will also feature
Dunlop Super 2 Series,
Porsche Carrera Cup,
Toyota Gazoo Racing 86 Series,
TCR Australia,
Touring Car Masters,
S5000,
GT World Challenge Australia,
V8 SuperUtes
Trans Am.

The event will become the finale of the 2021 Supercars Championship as part of the latest revision of the draft calendar.
Some great categories and I will certainly be looking forward to the sight of the S5000's hammering round at race speed.

Image

The hope and plan is for spectators to be allowed without the limits of last year (4000 daily v a normal weekend 4 day figure 200,000+) which set the local economy back by over $20 million.... indeed that reason is why the event has been moved to December, in the hope that the increased by then vax rate of the community will help contain the Covid numbers and allow unrestricted attendance. Good news is that NSW numbers seemed to have plateaued, although it has to be said the Bathurst region is suffering increasing numbers.

As posted yesterday all drivers and teams need to be double vaccinated as indeed all spectators will need proof of double vaccination to be shown at the gate on entry and on ticket booking.

You all know the track details but here is a map anyway....

Indications and hints today suggest that a later start is all but confirmed.
It seems the 1000 will start this year at midday, with a conclusion by 7.00 in the evening.

Sean Seamer, Supercars CEO:
“The Supercars schedule over that weekend hasn’t changed significantly, other than finishing the race a little bit later on the Sunday so that we can run into primetime,” said Seamer.

“So, a big thank you to Channel Seven for agreeing to move the news to incorporate that, but that all of the other categories in the lead up to the weekend will be getting a lot of their practice and qualifying out of the way so by the time you get into things on Thursday, it’s going to be action-packed all the way through to seven o’clock on Sunday night.”
As an aside the Bathurst 1000 is typically the only race on the calendar without a time-certain finish, and Seamer insisted time-certainty will be no issue this time around.

He alluded to the fact that sunset is later in December than the traditional October date, while it should also be noted that the start time was moved forward last year due to the threat of inclement weather.

Bamber to miss Bathurst 1000 with KGR

Earl Bamber will not contest this year’s Bathurst 1000 with Kelly Grove Racing due to scheduling conflicts.

Bamber was to share the #7 Ned Racing Ford Mustang with Andre Heimgartner in this year’s Great Race; however, commitments in the United States clashing with the revised dates will prevent the two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner from doing so.

Team co-owner Stephen Grove confirmed the team has a replacement driver for Bamber, who will be announced in the coming days.
“We’ve got a really exciting announcement who Andre’s co-driver will be, which we’ll confirm in the coming days.”

While Bamber will miss this year’s crown jewel event, Grove said the team is planning to have him back in 2022.

“There’s no question that we’ll work with Earl to get him back next year hopefully and beyond,” said Grove.

“He’s an extremely good talent. We’ll definitely be bringing him back if all the dates align for 2022, no question.”

Bamber has just one start in the Bathurst 1000 to his name, finishing fifth with countryman Shane van Gisbergen in the 2018 edition.
This year Bamber has competed in the IMSA SportsCar Championship in North America and GT World Challenge Europe.

I was thinking maybe Mathew Payne might be the replacement for Earl.... The only issue is that of a Superlicence. He is tied to tke the seat of Heimgartner for next year (subject to an S/L dispensation) He currently drives for Bamber in his Carrera Cu team.
Second thoughts Bathurst is not the lace to make your debut in Supercars, regardless of the licence issue.

Well that did not take long.... they mentioned of a name substitute in line for Bamber to be announced shortly.....

KGR names Campbell as Bamber’s Bathurst 1000 replacement

He will drive the #7 car with Heimgartner.

For Campbell, it is not just a case of coming back to Supercars, having last driven in the category with Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Shane van Gisbergen in the 2017 Pirtek Enduro Cup.

It also represents his return to KGR, having debuted in Supercars when he partnered team co-owner Todd Kelly in a Nissan Motorsport entry in the long-distance events of 2016.

He knows his way arount Bathurst as well.....Campbell is twice a class winner in endurance contests at Mount Panorama, having taken GT3 Pro-Am honours in the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2017 and then won outright with Earl Bamber Motorsport in 2019.

On the latter occasion, he did so as a Porsche factory driver, and was a ‘Porsche Young Professional’ when he bagged the GTE Am class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018.

Another casualty down to the difficulties of quarantine and international travellers

Premat to miss Bathurst 1000, Best in his place at Tickford

A bit sad but Tickford Racing has confirmed 2019 winner Alex Premat will not contest this year’s Bathurst 1000 due to international travel 'challenges'.

It marks the second year in a row that the Frenchman has missed the Great Race as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his place will be young Super2 Series front-runner Zak Best, who will join Jack Le Brocq in the #5 Truck Assist Racing entry.

Meanwhile, James Moffat will join Cameron Waters in the #6 Monster Energy Racing Ford Mustang while James Courtney in #44 will pair up with Thomas Randle at Boost Mobile Racing.

“I was really looking forward to coming back to Bathurst this year, so I am sad to say I won’t be making the trip to race with Tickford in 2021,” said Premat.

“Unfortunately, between commitments I have in the US and difficulties with travelling into Australia, we couldn’t put things together and make it work, which is a shame, but I’ll be cheering on the team from home and hopefully next year I can finally come back to Bathurst.”

Premat last contested the Bathurst 1000 in 2019, winning with Scott McLaughlin and the Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Boost Erebus Murphy / Stanaway Bathurst 'wildcard' livery launched

Early days yet but we have just had the first livery launch for the 1000..... that of the much publicized Boost Mobile backed Erebus run "Wildcard" entry of Kiwi pair Greg Murphy and Richard Stanaway. It features Boost logos with a Kiwi bird prominent. It also carries the #51 that Murphy used for most of his career. It seems to have no shortage of different stickers on it.

We are currently 9 hrs ahead of you ie our midday is 3 am for you. However I think most places in Europe change there clocks next weekend and put your clocks back one hour. If that is so we will be 10 hrs ahead of you so our midday is 2am for you. We already put our clocks forward one hour earlier this month so our end will be unchanged until March at the end of our summer.
Hope that all makes sense

9h ahead of UTC/GMT or the Middle european summert time, which would be UTC+2 currently and only changes on October 31 to UTC+1 .

Replace the time date in the link below, keep the AEDT. It should give you the corresponding local time, that is the one where the site thinks you are calling it from.
