2021 Bathurst 6 hour April 2nd-4th

Seems strange that despite the cancellation of this years 12 hour due to the International Covid related restraints on overseas entries, we have already had a Supercars Sprint race weekend there and now this weekend is the usual Easter 6 hour "Production" (we know they are not what you buy in the showroom!) race.

Practice gets underway on Friday with the race on Sunday. Obviously a multi driver race, I think there are some 150 drivers entered in the multi class event.

62 cars entered

Several big name drivers have their names on the entry list and it should be a good weekend. Last year the race didnt happen due to Covid, but this year, despite a scare in Brisbane potentially affecting Brisbane based teams and drivers with a sudden lockdown announced, along with those who have visited Brisbane known hotspots being quarantined. It should not cause any issues as most of those based in Brisbane (ie Triple 8) had warning of the planned lockdown and hit the road to be out of Queensland pre the deadline last night.

A full support programme which includes a co-driver Aus GT race means the likes of Van Gz will be a busy man this weekend, driving in both the GT supports and the main event. Other support categories are Historic Touring Cars, Radical Cup, Trans-Am, TCR cup.

Full schedule for the weekend here: https://www.speedcafe.com/2021/03/18/ba ... aks-cover/

The Entry list

While the make-up of Class X, from which the outright winners are most likely to come, was largely already known, it has now been confirmed that the winning pairing from the most recent running of the Mount Panorama enduro remains in place.

That is, Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey will drive one of two Bruce Lynton BM Service BMW M3s, with theirs bearing the #1 plate on account of victory in the 2019 Bathurst 6 Hour.

The other Lynton M3 is the all-Ellery trio of father Steven, a three-time Bathurst 1000 podium finisher who makes his national level comeback this weekend, along with sons Tristan and Dalton in Car #99.

Shane van Gisbergen’s drive in has also been reaffirmed, having yesterday also been named on entry list for Round 2 of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS season at Mount Panorama.

The injured Supercars Championship leader will partner Shane Smollen and Rob Rubis in the #97 Prestige Connex BMW M4.

Another Bathurst 1000 winner in John Bowe lines up in the sole HSV which will tackle an otherwise all-BMW field in Class X, sharing the #41 Wake Up GTS with Tony Virag and Barry Sternbeck.

The Sherrin Rentals team which won the Bathurst 6 Hour in 2018 now boasts Erebus Motorsport Supercars co-driver David Russell alongside Grant Sherrin in the #27 M4, while Tim Slade pairs up with Bradley Carr in the #8 Car Mods Australia M3.

Also in the eight-strong Class X contingent are Simon Hodges/Mark Caine (#21 Secure Wealth M4) and Christopher Manley/Calum Jones (#34 Tropical Fruit World M3).

Practice starts this Friday, with the race itself due to kick off on Sunday at 11:15 local time/AEST.

A huge range of cars from 1 series BMWs through Mustangs Golfs, Mazdas, Mercedes A45s BMW M3 and M4s, Renault Meganes, Mustangs, Mistubishi, Subarus, through to the big Holden Clubsports and HSV's and more..

The 2019 race was quite intense.

and a fun moment from 2018 when the leader lost a wheel in the dying stages....

The six hour should be good. It's probably the best field they've had so far with several more of the current M3/M4s then when they won by multiple laps in 2019 and almost a record number of cars entered, though I wouldn't be surprised if a few can't make it due to the situation in QLD. There's a few interesting drivers on the entry list too, there's quite a number who raced in the 1000 back in the late 90s/early 2000s.

It'll be interesting to see how the Mustangs go since it's their first time in the race and they were pretty competitive in some of the lesser races in 2019 and 2020, and also to see if SVG can join Paul Morris in winning the 1000, 12 Hour and 6 Hour.

Also looking forward to seeing TCR at Bathurst for the first time and I think S5000 might be doing some demonstrations too.

Well GG to SVG, he's now joined Paul Morris in winning the 1000, 12 Hour and 6 Hour. At this rate I'm not sure he'll ever lose a race again.

Yeah, he has also won four races at Bathurst consecutively since the Bathurst 1000 last year, Oh forgot..... on top of the 1000, the two V8SC Sprint races last month and the 6 hour today he also won both the GT 1hr races that supported the 6 hour and he ran in.

Amusingly he set the fastest race of the 6 hour on the penultimate lap.

He is certainly on a roll at the moment.

Oh yeah and in the off season he won the New Zealand GP in an open wheeler just for the hell of it.

Save of the day going through the Chase at Bathurst last weekend when Daniel Clift hit oil at over 240kph

https://www.facebook.com/cliftbros/vide ... ted_videos

Actually Daniel Clift had another similar moment at the end of Mountain Straight round Griffins's Bend.

https://www.facebook.com/cliftbros/vide ... ted_videos

Thinks: Maybe the oil they talk of was actually dropping from his car onto his rear tyres :dunno:

84 cars are already entered for next year's 6 Hour :flag: Only 70 can start though, but even still that would be the biggest grid in Bathurst history and probably Australian circuit racing history as well.

Wow, it just shows how strong the market it for a reasonably priced (to compete in) event at the mountain. 70 starters will mean cars on the grid round the corner and up towards the exit to the Chase. Cant remember if it is a rolling start.

Edit: Just read the report and must admit have now just thought of the garage issue, with every car obviously needing soewhere to service the cars with fuel tyres etc in an endurance race.
