Bottom post of the previous page:

Re the penalties pending, no decision yet over the Percat tyre pressures investigation so his podium is more a token awaiting confirmation a this stage. Apparently all will be revealed tomorrow.

However Courtney got given 5 seconds, not for his biffing of Kostecki, but for a restart breach. Apparently the penalty that was initially given to Brown for a breach of SC restart procedure, and then dropped should have been given to Courney as it was he who broke ranks early, thus post race the penalty was given to him.

The penalty promotes Brown to fourth and Jake Kostecki to fifth while Courtney drops to 10th.

Kurt Kostecki (Mobil 1 Racing), Tim Slade (CoolDrive Racing), Brodie Kostecki (Erebus Boost Mobile Racing) and Thomas Randle (Castrol Racing) now occupy sixth to ninth.

I have not posted results because they are still showing Courtney in 4th.

OK the decision is made..... Percat will keep his 3rd place but the team lost its Team points for their sins.
It seems like Brad Jones did a bit of a flannel job on the stewards to get that outcome. From what was said it was BJR who went to officials and said they had a possible puncture or tyre pressure problem as the cars were on the dummy grid. Something to do with it was the 2 tyres on the shady side of the car cooled down more than the other side. I would have thought that the tyres all round have to be at X psi and if they are in the shade and cool down more then put more air in to compensate.

Anyway it was a great drive from Percat so glad he kept the position, and it seems the breach was only a fraction of 1 psi.
I bet all the tyres will be right pre racing today!

Edit: Added the official excuse from Brad Jones as per his interview when the findings were revealed:.
“It was one of those things, all the cars go out with the same tyre pressure, which the great thing about having all the data available in those hearings is Supercars can look and see what all the other cars are doing, what we’re doing,” said Jones.

“All four of our cars went out with the same tyre pressure, Nick went around to the grid, we saw the two right were dropping in pressure and were getting down towards the minimum, we thought possibly we could have a puncture.

“So we went and spoke to Adrian [Burgess, Supercars head of motorsport], told him we had a problem on the right-hand side. We put the two tyres we had on the grid but they weren’t pressured so they were up five psi.

“[What had happened] wasn’t clear to us until later so then we went back through the data and did the same thing.

“We were in with the stewards for three or four hours last night and it turns out that there was a bit of a miscommunication between us and Nick about how much tyre warming he needed, how much brake energy he needed to get into the car.

“The guys drag the brakes and do whatever they can to get temperature into the tyres, everyone does it.

“So then we got to the grid, we were still above the pressure, we could see them going down, and then about 10 minutes before the race start rather than let it fluctuate around 16.8 and 17 [psi], we got on the front foot and went and saw the head of motorsport and said ‘we potentially have a problem, the two tyres on the right side are dropping faster than the ones on the left’.

“The ones on the right are also in the shade and so he allowed us to change them. They checked them for punctures and then we had the hearing last night and then just got the outcome two minutes ago.”

Straight into qualifying for todays second race.
As with the session just finished for todays first race, it is a 10 minute session to decide the grid for race 2 today, no knock out or shootout.

Davison has just smashed the lap record set yesterday to do the first ever sub 1:05 lap with a 1:4.495.
Needless to say that was pole with SVG and ADP 2nd and 3rd again.

First race today at 12:25 AEST. Just over 2 hours away.

Tickford confirm it holds options on Cam Waters

It seems another of the favoured V8 SC drivers who could have been in line to replace Whincup at T888, Cam Waters, will not be available for the gig. Although out of contract at the end of the season, Tickford have confirmed that they want him to continue to in effect lead the squad, and that they have an option in his contract to extend his services for another 2 years.

With Mostert recently confirming his future at WAU the list of high profile drivers available shrinks away. Aarently the shortlist is down to 3 or 4 now, or which Broc Feeney seems to be the favourite option. Brodie Kostecki remains to be a name mentioned but Erebus seem to think he has a contract with them.

Getting back to Tickford the ironic fact is that options aside the only driver confirmed with them is Thomas Randle who they were unable to rovide a car for this year. Waters. has the option mentioned as does Le Brocq, but it seems Courtney has no contract with Tickford. He is contracted to Boost Mobile, his sponsor.... .im Edwards (Tickford boss) said,
“James is a little bit different because he’s got an agreement with Boost [Mobile]. He’s contracted to Boost and we’ll just work through that as we do with all our commercial partners.
Of course if Bro Feeney has not got the gig at T888, Boost Mobile have promised Broc they would back him elsewhere if T888 did not come through.

I guess in summary there are not many local otions open to T888 and Feeney is looking good to become the rookie with one of the best seats in town for V8SC.

As soon as Whincup's retirement became official I had my money on Nick Percat. But he's kinda became anonymous since and 2021 is flat out ugly for him.

He is AFAIK under contract with BJR until end 2022. (Signed last year) He also recently said something along the lines of him being happy at BJR, played the loyalty card etc., and sees that as a good place to be. I get the feeling he likes to be a big fish in a small pond, rather than the opposite as it would be at somewhere like T8.

Edit: found the article confirming his contractual status at BJR: https://www.supercars.com/news/champion ... rm-future/
