Super2 driver Tyler Everingham and TA2 racer Nathan Herne will be driving.
Nathan Herne refused license to compete

A bit of a hiccup in the wildcard return for GRM.... not insurmountable, although no doubt he was a bringer of sponsorship for the effort. There must be someone young, talented, with the correct license, and with a wad of cash with nothing conflicting in their diary.... :dunno:

Nathan Herne has been refused dispensation for a Superlicence to compete at the Bathurst 1000 with Garry Rogers Motorsport.

While a TA2 regular, he does not currently meet any of the four criteria which would enable him to obtain a Motorsport Australia Superlicence, having amassed only 10 points in the last five years.

He was due to have tested at Winton tomorrow, with Everingham, who qualifies for a license due to his 6th place in Super 2 last year.

The full statement from Motorsport Australia
Motorsport Australia has advised it will not provide a Superlicence dispensation for Nathan Herne as part of the GRM wildcard entry for this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

“In considering the circumstances and the driver’s experience, as well as the fact that this dispensation is being requested for one of the most challenging tracks in the world, Motorsport Australia has decided not to provide a dispensation to Nathan Herne,” Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca said.

“Motorsport Australia has consulted with Supercars and the Supercars Commission who are aligned with this decision, given the nature of the event and the location in question.

“Nathan has also yet to compete in any Supercars event, including no Super2 or Super3 experience, so the risks of stepping straight into a Supercar at the top level at Bathurst was a part of our decision making process.

“The Superlicence requirement was introduced in 2016 by Motorsport Australia and is intended to maintain the highest safety and driving standards across the sport.”
Some lucky dude will be getting a phone call from Barry / Garry Rogers tonight telling them to get there arse to Winton . NOW.
No hints as to whom that might be at this time. I guess GRM could postpone the planned test for tomorrow, if they are not already on the road. Of course the other driver, Tyler Everingham is probably there already waiting,

UPDATE...... GRM will not contest Bathurst 1000 if Herne cannot race

Team Director Barry Rogers said he intends to fight the decision, otherwise the team will not compete in the Great Race.

Rogers labelled the announcement “disappointing” for the team.

When asked if the team had a back-up plan, Rogers replied, “There’s no back-up plan, we won’t run (if Herne cannot race).

“We’re confident that we can get this through on the precedents that has been set.”

Rogers said he was optimistic the team would get the dispensation allowed, citing 17-year-old driver Broc Feeney who will also contest this year’s race.

Barry (son of Garry) Rogers wrote:“It was something we always knew we had to apply for a dispensation for Nathan,” said Rogers.

“But it was never something that we saw was going to be an issue based on previous dispensations that had been given to drivers that had had Superlicence points, and even in some instances, below the 17-year-age minimum.

“Even in the current grid of drivers this year, I think Broc Feeney is there with less points than Nathan. Supercars like to highlight the fact that he’s been in a Super3 car and maybe a couple of Super2 races this year.

“Nathan has been racing TA2 cars, and let me tell you, you could argue they’re a more difficult car to handle than a Supercar. Very similar terminal speed; it’s not like he’s been racing around in a Hyundai.

“Anyway, we’ll battle on further. We’re not stopping here. So we’ll see what unfolds.”

Rogers said the decision didn’t fit the spirit of the Great Race, labelling the current state of Supercars “closed shop” to smaller teams.

“This is the sad part about it for us, not just us, but motorsport fans, in general, see Bathurst as a people’s race,” said Rogers.

“It’s a race where if you go back in the history of the race, you see those grids of 50 and 60 cars where someone had a bit of go in them, get it out, and go to Bathurst.

“It’s become a bit of a closed shop. It’s sad because you get a guy like Garry, there are very few of them around these days that are prepared to back young guys.

“Garry has always done things a bit different. He hasn’t always toed the line of what everyone else wanted to do.

“He spotted young Nathan a few years ago in his Formula Ford days and followed him through TA2. He sees someone that can get there and that’s disappointing that others can’t have a bit of faith in Garry.

“You’d have to argue, has there been anybody else that has done for Australian motorsport what he’s done? Not only just with drivers but with cars and everything.

“For this decision as it stands at this particular point in time, it’s disappointing. Our plan is to press on with it. We’ll seek some advice to see where we go from here.”

That's disappointing but I don't think GRM should be all that surprised given Herne has never even raced a Supercar (granted, he has run in TA2 which is similar, but that is not a high level series) and everyone else in the field has either run the 1000 before or run a full season of Super2, with the exception of Broc Feeney who won Super3 last year and is now doing quite well in Super2.

I suspect this is probably more about money.... ie sponsorship that Herne must have been bringing in to help fund the weekend.
I suspect if some young charger with a license and a wad of cash gives GRM a call that it will all be on again.

Tailem Bend part 2 this weekend

This weekend sees the second part of the Tailem Bend double header.

The races this weekend are to be held on a different circuit layout... the West circuit, so we will see something different. Last weekend was on the International circuit.

Race format will be 3 x 32 lap 110 klm races.
20 soft tyres for the weekend. Each race will have one compulsory stop to change a minimum of two tyres. Saturday will have a Q1 Q2 knockout format qualifying with a top 15 shootout, whereas Sunday will feature a qualifying session for each race with no shootout.

This is a track map map showing the various layouts available. As mentioned this weekend will be the West circuit.

https://www.thebend.com.au/motor-racing-circuit

Preview of the weekend event and schedule here:
https://media3.speedcafe.com/wp-content ... eBend2.pdf

Better Racing anticipated.

Drivers feel that the track configuration of the West circuit will lead to better racing. A key difference with the West Circuit over the International circuit used last weekend is that it will not be as harsh on tyres and will negate the need to turn it into a tyre conservation exercise....the West Circuit short cuts the high-load Turn 7 to Turn 12 section, which consisted of long high load fast corners. Teams had to detune their cars to allow for the tyre wear, wheras as on the West circuit teams think they will be able to keep a semi-aggressive set-up.

SVG said of the track:
“The (longer) circuit here is awesome, but it just doesn’t suit V8s, but in a GT car or LMP car it’s amazing to drive. But in our car it’s just so hard to follow.

“So having these more short corners, sort of like a stadium section it sort of feels like, I reckon it’ll be awesome.

“It’ll be really good racing. You should be able to do big cross backs, big divebombs, I reckon it’ll be really cool.”

Just a reminder to those in Europe, dont forget time difference to Tailem Bend is 30 minutes less than Aus East Coast.

ie its currently 3:37pm in Melbourne, but 3:07pm in Tailem Bend.

Race start is 4:10pm Melbourne time , 3:40pm Tailem Bend Time. Half an hour from now.

Good.... I did not realise you got TV coverage in Poland, always presumed you watched via live feed.

Race is one compulsory stop for a minimum of 2 tyres. Pit lane loss is about 35 seconds plus stop time.

32 laps race = 110klms.

Warm up lap now underway

Delayed start for some reason.... they are off on an extra formation lap. I did not see a Green flag from the rear of grid to signal to the starter all ok.

I read on twitter the time actually runs with the aborted start so we could have a timed race?

Sheesh, that's stupid with the sprint race formula?
