Lada is set to call time on its WTCC programme after five years, as the manufacturer will reportedly pull out of the championship at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
According to reports in the Russian media, the about-turn in Lada's commitment to the championship is due to a change in the Russian marque's global strategy, which will instead focus on homegrown championships, like the Russian Racing Championship.
Lada's withdrawal leaves Honda and Volvo as the only two manufacturers competing in the series next year, with Citroen leaving at the end of this year to return full-time to the World Rally Championship.
Goodbye LADA

WTCC has been weak for years. Losing two manufacturers is irrelevant. The genesis of WTCC's issues is the FIA allowing SEAT to dictate technical rules when they introduced the diesel engine.

Is it? I thought Lada was something to do with the Renault and Nissan alliance.Ian-S wrote:More fallout from Deiselgate.

Lol, I wasn't!! I want WTCC to be successful and to a certain extent they've done a good job rebuilding parts of the series over the past couple of years, like with the addition of the Nordschliefe. But they keep making odd decisions, like MAC3, few races in mainland Europe and none in England, the technical rules, etc... What made ETCC and WTCC successful in previous decades (80s, 2000s) was technical rules commonality with other series worldwide. Now they want to do their own thing which presents a technical and cost misalignment.John wrote:I was trying to be nice for a change.kals wrote:WTCC has been weak for years. And now I hear they want to adopt the Class One rules which have been designed for DTM and Super GT. Which will probably mean DTM will become WTCC.

Tarquini won at one of the races at Qatar, then Lada will leave WTCC with some sense of victory.
