Got to say it was a masterstroke by T888 pitting Lowndes for fresh rubber under the late SC letting him attack Scotty as he did. In effect Lowndes won the title for Jamie / T888. Sort of.

Feel so sorry for Scotty but he will be back with a vengeance. At the end of the day he lost the title rather than Jamie winning it. Silly penalties over unnecessary risks was not what he needed to do.

That race was completely insane. It's a cliche but that whole weekend was like something out of a movie. I would not have believed what happened if I had been told about it this morning.

Scotty fucked up today but he also got fucked over, mainly at that restart where he got run into. I feel like that slowed him down and made it more difficult to overtake the two GRM cars.

The other unfortunate thing is that had Scotty got to the end at Bathurst instead of blowing an engine, he would have won the title despite all the crap that happened today. Oh well, I'm sure he'll win some more.

What the hell did I just watch? That was entertaining, fantastic and heartbreaking all rolled into one, now follow that F1...

One of the best races I have seen.... close hard racing, controversy, drama by the bucketload and entertaining for the racing rather than the peripherals side shows. It just shows that racing alone can provide the total package. (Yes I know they had the peripherals and bands playing after but this was good without it.

Meh. Oh well

David Reynolds got the best and fairest, Will Brown got the Young Gun award and Neil Crompton got inducted into the hall of fame. All of them are deserving winners.

Supercars showdown captures the Nations attention.

The title showdown was clearly a big media hit, with Channel Tens FTA coverage topping the total ratings on Ten for the day, as did the Foxtel cable coverage top their audience for the day.

In addition to that, there were just shy of 300.000 social media interactions for the race, outscoring the equivalent Ashes Australia v England Cricket Test Match interaction.

Todd Hazelwood is headed to the big series, bringing Matt Stone's team with him. They'll be running an ex-DJR Falcon using Bright's REC which will be owned by former team owner James Rosenberg.
The Matt Stone Racing driver and his family have notably grafted together funding to supplement his racing budget through sausage sizzles, with the outcome a reward for persistence from all concerned.

“I think it’s just taking a lifetime of punches along the way,” Hazelwood responded when asked how he bounced back from his Sandown disappointment, a weekend which also including a horrifying rollover in a Sandown 500 qualifying race.

“You soon learn to build a thick skin over the years and motorsport certainly teaches that at a young age so after Sandown I was pretty fired up and to come to this weekend knowing we had a mathematical chance at winning the title.

“We put every single bit of resource into it that was possible to achieve that. That really comes down to the team at Matt Stone Racing and the amount of work that they’ve done behind the scenes.

“I suppose that’s the ultimate reward,” he added when asked about his family’s support.

“I said to them back in 2014 that we’d achieve this, and you always say you will but until you’ve actually done it, it’s hard to take in.

“Obviously it’s well-documented how incredible my family have been to get to this point, it’s certainly not the most financially well-off family but we were probably the hardest-working team family out there.

“We stuck together as a group and we haven’t looked back.

“There have been a lot of opportunities where we could have just put our hand up and taken a year off or take the easy route and miss a couple of rounds but we’ve done every round since 2014 even though we’ve effectively been up s**t creek sometimes.

“Without them I wouldn’t be here today, that’s for sure.”

It's good to see Todd's hard work paying off, and it's nice to see the Stone family back in the main series.

I wonder if Jim Stone (Father of Matt and former partner with brother Ross) in Stone Brothers Racing will be involved? I have seen him around the paddock a lot. Maybe he already has enough on his plate with his involvement in the new (Super) Utes series?

Craig Lowndes will be racing in new colours in 2018.

Interesting to see that Craig Lowndes will feature a new naming sponsor livery and backers, Autobarn, for the next two years. This will replace the current Vortex / Caltes livery, although they will continue as sponsorsMore interesting is that the official entry is Autobarn Lowndes Racing. I presume at this stage that this is purely to more closely align the iconic Lowndes name with the Autobarn brand. The car will still be run under the T888 banner.
The third Triple Eight Holden will feature title sponsorship from car accessories giant Autobarn for the next two Supercars seasons — the same length as Lowndes’ extended contract with the team.

Currently running under the TeamVortex moniker, Lowndes’ entry will be run under the Autobarn Lowndes Racing banner.

The company has been a personal sponsor of Lowndes for many years, with Autobarn an associate sponsor of both his No. 888 car as well as the team’s other cars in recent seasons.

“It’s fantastic to extend the team’s very successful partnership with Autobarn, as well as my own personal relationship with them, which began over 15 years ago,” Lowndes said.

“I am grateful of Autobarn’s support over these many years and that they’ve now chosen to take an even stronger position going forward. It has always been a relationship that I have valued highly.

“I’m pretty excited to roll out a totally new look and I’m looking forward to sharing it with fans early next year.”

Peter Tilley, executive general manager — retail of Autobarn owners Bapcor, added: “We’re delighted to be expanding our partnership with Triple Eight and Craig Lowndes. Autobarn and Triple Eight have enjoyed an excellent relationship since its inception almost five years ago and we’re extremely proud to see it go from strength to strength,” he said.

“Craig is a fantastic ambassador of both the sport and Autobarn, so for us this is a natural progression of an already highly successful combination.”

Caltex, the naming-rights sponsor of Lowndes car for the past two seasons, will remain on the No. 888 Holden until at least the end of 2019.

Lowndes new livery, set to be worn on Holden’s new ZB Commodore Supercar, will be revealed ahead of the 2018 season.

I think I posted that a while back, anyway it's not a new announcement.

Speaking of which:
https://www.speedcafe.com/2017/12/01/ni ... placement/

Heimgartner will be replacing Todd Kelly, and...

Davison has been officially confirmed at the 23RED team. This leaves only the Tekno car and the remaining Prodrive entry to have their drivers confirmed.
