As we are unable to moderate threads over 100 pages long, I have had to create a new NASCAR thread. The previous one is here:

Jayski wrote:Newman and Penske to part ways at end of season: Penske Racing and Ryan Newman have mutually agreed to move in new directions at the conclusion of the 2008 season. "We want to thank Ryan for his hard work and contributions to Penske Racing over the past nine years," said team owner Roger Penske. "We wish Ryan all the best for the future and we'll continue to focus our efforts on making the Chase with Ryan and the Alltel Dodge team this season." PT,

Would you mind titling this thread "NASCAR" instead of NSC/NNS/CTS?

There are more divisions than just those three:

I wonder if Penske will have three teams in '09.

Another sponsor might be hard to find if Alltel has to leave. I would love to see Stremme or Mears with the team, but I don't see it happening.

NASCAR.com wrote:MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Braun Racing on Thursday announced that former Formula One world champion Jacques Villeneuve will drive its No. 32 Toyota in the second annual Nationwide Series event at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on Aug. 2.

The 2.709-mile road course is named after his father, Gilles Villeneuve, a legendary Formula 1 racer.

The race will mark Villeneuve's first Nationwide Series start at the track which carries his namesake.

Villeneuve has two Sprint Cup starts last year. He finished 21st at Talladega and 41st at Phoenix, driving for Bill Davis Racing.

Ryan needs to go to Stewart-Haas. It'd be perfect. Two Indiana boys that came up the same way, not to mention Ryan's engineering background and proven ability to win that's almost as fiery and passionate as Tony himself. It'd be perfect.. did I already say that? I hope we hear some announcement to that effect next weekend at the Brickyard. :)

Matt Borland would be the perfect crew chief for Newman. He is already over at Haas CNC.

Borland and Newman were winners once upon a time.

...but yeah, either the Stewart-Haas car or the #33 RCR car. Those are really Newman's only big opportunities.

If Stewart wants to add a third car for Martin Truex, that'd probably work out well enough.

Theoretically Stewart could then have three cars out of the top thirtyfive then :-?

Yeah, that's really the only catch to that. But to say Martin Truex and Ryan Newman can't drive the hell out of a car is to say the sky isn't normally blue.

Toyota disappointed in NASCAR ruling

By Diego Mejia Friday, July 25th 2008, 08:47 GMT

Toyota have expressed their disappointment in NASCAR's decision to reduce the horsepower on their Nationwide series engines after dyno tests carried out recently revealed their superiority.

Lee White, President and General Manager for Toyota Racing Development, said there is no technical justification for NASCAR to introduce changes in the engine rules that will ultimately penalise their teams for the success they have achieved this season.

Following Toyota's fourteenth win of the season two weeks ago at Chicagoland Speedway, NASCAR impounded and tested engines from the four different manufacturers competing in the second-level series.

As a result, they have now mandated that all Toyota engines must race with a smaller restrictor that cuts between 10 and 20 horsepower, supposedly putting them on a par with the current generation of engines run by Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge.

"We're extremely disappointed in NASCAR's decision," White said in a statement. "In our opinion, there is no technical justification to penalise the Toyota engine utilised in the Nationwide Series.

"Toyota always has, and will continue to, abide by all NASCAR-mandated engine specifications and the Nationwide engine was built strictly to NASCAR specifications.

"The success of the Toyota Camry this year in the Nationwide Series is the result of hard work and achievement by all of our race teams - Braun Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, Germain Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing - working in conjunction with TRD U.S.A.

"All the tireless efforts by our teams, TRD and Triad during the off-season, at pre-season testing and during the first half of the year, combined with extremely talented drivers, have produced exceptional results."

White vowed to bounce back from this setback but claimed that NASCAR's decision is set to affect all the Toyota teams beyond this season, as they will have to put more resources and effort towards regainning their competitiveness under the new rule scenario.

"Despite this setback, we will continue to work diligently to keep our Nationwide teams competitive. Our hope remains that a Toyota team or driver will be rewarded with a championship at the conclusion of this year.

"Unfortunately, the decision by NASCAR could be more far-reaching than simply mandating Toyota to adjust its Nationwide engine. The real impact will be felt by the Toyota teams as they adjust to the change, work to remain competitive for the remainder of this season and attempt to line up their sponsorships for next year."

When they showed the performance sheet during the Gateway race I think the Waltrip cars were on top. Gibbs dominating is just a good team and a good engine. I'm not quite sure that they needed to do that. Anyway, its a done deal so we'll see how things will work out in a couple of weeks. First up is IRP and that's more about fenders than engines. :haha:

Congrats on reaching 100 pages guys, never thought there would be so much interest in stock car racing.
