Bottom post of the previous page:

No doubt this sparked a whole new bunch of attention.

Absolutely,. But if it weren't for the weather, nothing else on TV, and the novelty of it being the first full 500 televised live entirely, people that had no interest in racing wouldn't have seen it anyway.

That'll probably just smear the dirt given how moist it was.

Removing the windshield, like an actual dirt late model, plus a wire screen would be far better.

Unfortunately NASCAR don't have the brains to do that, as they should of before the cars even hit the track.

Anyway im pretty skeptical we will get any racing tomorrow, lots of rain overnight.

Or use WRC style windscreen washers/wipers up for the job.
Or drill a few small holes in the perspex screen and wear a visor.

(Ask Murray Walker about that one..... my first real memory of Murray Walker was him commentating on UK Rallycross at Lydden Hill, highlighting how the car in the lead had drilled holes in the screen so he could see clearly. As the car in question completely missed a turn and drove straight into an earth bank.)

(Psssstttt....It's should HAVE, not "should of". You can't "should of" done something. You can "should have" done something.

The contraction should've sounding like "should of" causes many to make the same mistake, so your excused.)

I am really confused that they are running on a dirt course. Someone please explain.

It seems to be the equivalent of F1 wanting to try Sprint races, reverse grids etc... try anything to claw back the falling TV ratings of NASCAR F1 and other series.... and fight reducing fan numbers. That would be my suspicion as an uninformed NASCAR outsider..

I don't know why they've decided to do it but the last time they did was 1970.
Petty won thirty of his 200 GN/Cup races on dirt.

Edit: Doing a little snuffling about, I see that there were 3 dirt races in '70.
