why was Rockingham (North Carolina) so popular? I don't see it being different to other short tracks?

any chance of it returning to the roster?

It has a long history (early 60s I believe) and put on some great races. It's not really a short track but somewhere in between and the surface was quite worn out which like Darlington made it a real challenge for the drivers.

Chances of it returning to the roster are very low. Andy Hillenburg, a retired driver, tried. Bought the track after NASCAR left and made improvements and ARCA and NASCAR's lower divisions held races for a couple of years but not enough people showed up to make it worthwhile. The track is still operation I think.

Rockingham will be on the CARS Late Model Tour schedule next year, so that's a definite look skyward

Unfortunately I think North Wilkesboro is too far gone to be refurbished without a complete demolition and rebuild, which is highly unlikely to happen in this current COVID economic climate.

Favourite current track would definitely be the Charlotte Roval, seems like every race there something exciting happens, but the new Phoenix Raceway layout is awesome on restarts so that’s probably my second favourite.

My favourite past tracks were Rockingham, Nazareth, Nashville Fairgrounds (returning in 2022) and Louisville Speedway, which held truck races in the late 90s, it’s infield was shaped like a big smiley face and the track was basically one big turning circle except for the frontstretch. It’s rather sad it was demolished after 2001 in favour of the Kentucky Speedway, which looks destined for ruin now as well.

I always liked Pocono. The only Oval where you had to shift, thats why it is called a roval. :)
I also find it is the prettiest track NASCAR has to offer these days. The word Pennsylvania fits like a glove, this track really is between the woods.

For an oval/tri-oval, agreed.

Watkins Glen or Road America; prettier than Pocono to boot. :)

Nascar rarely fails on road courses. Watkins Glen, Road America, Barber, Mosport.

Here ya' go. You can check out where the NASCAR major series have ever run: https://www.racing-reference.info/cup.htm , https://www.racing-reference.info/xfinity.htm ,
https://www.racing-reference.info/trucks.htm

Edit: 'Forgot; same site: https://www.racing-reference.info/tracklist

I coulda' sworn the trucks, XFinity or both ran at Mid Ohio but it ain't on the track list.....

Edit II: Bam!!! I checked another circuit site and XFinity did run there in at least 2019, Austin Cindric won.

Edit III: And now, checking XFinity for 2019 and reverse checking the Mid Ohio results, it shows as Lexington, Ohio (and it turns out they raced there from 2013-2019) but even that is not on the track list for the Racing-Reference site.....weird.

Yes, The X-Finity ran at Mid Ohio. Good track btw.

Somehow i remember them run at Lime Rock Park too. Or was it an K&N series race?
