That's what bugs you?

What bugs me is NASCAR and its fans lauding a system that gives Ryan Newman a realistic shot at a title when he barely registers a reasonable result throughout a season.

But yeah, joking about Newman aside I do agree. Perhaps what NASCAR can add to the format is putting all the chase contenders at the head of the pack at the start of every race plus restart. Yes that doesn't eliminate the possibility of getting caught up in incidents but it ensures the chase pack are fighting themselves to begin with. Also, maybe the chasers can be given a weight break so they are faster that the non-chase pack?

Wasn't the chase created when Kenseth won a title through consistency after only winning one race all year long? Or was it discussed before that as well? I like your ideas. Certainly for restarts in the last half of the race or something like that.

Or, you know, whoever gets the most points over a season wins the title. That could work as well. It's hard to say someone isn't a deserving champion when he has the most points of 40+ drivers after 36 races. I always considered the chase a quick fix to a problem that didn't exist.

Yeah that's right. Kenseth won a small number of races and scored so consistently that the title was decided many races before the close of the year.

IIRC he won the second or third race of the year (North Carolina?), drove incredibly consistent on his way to a thoroughly deserving title. He played the game and won. Well done, I'd say.

He won Las Vegas only that year.
There was also a guy in the Xfinity Chase this year who's best finish had been 5th or something similar, had never even been in the top 3, yet other race winners were excluded because of the rules.

Better things to do, hotels overpricing themselves around race times etc.

It's very hard to care about NASCAR because it's such a shit show nowadays.
