Looks like you may have to add AJ to the list of free agents and take Kurt off. :(

James Finch (#51 Phoenix Racing team owner) wrote:I told him I'd meet with him (Kurt) and see what's going on. I haven't decided who I am going to put in my car next year. He wasn't necessarily at the top of the list. Kurt, his talent is pretty good. He's one of the best there is, but I'm not going to listen to that shit and pay him money.

The Bud Shootout changes formats for the umpteenth time:
The 34th annual season-opening event launches Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 18 with a start time set for 8:10 p.m. FOX and MRN will broadcast live nationally. Criteria are based upon the following qualifications, with eligibility based on a driver having been active in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series during the 2011 season:

* The highest ranked 25 competitors in 2011 NSCS driver points
* Previous winners at Daytona, including the Daytona 500, Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola, and Shootout events.

The race distance will again be 75 laps (187.5 miles), consisting of two segments – 25 and 50 laps. Both green-flag laps and yellow-flag laps will count. Between segments there will be a 10-minute pit stop allowing teams to pit to change tires, add fuel and make normal chassis adjustments. Crews will be permitted to work on cars and will be allowed to perform functions they would do on a normal pit stop in a regular NASCAR Sprint Cup event. All work must be performed on pit road or in the garage. Changing of springs, shock absorbers or rear-ends will not be permitted.

Looks like anyone is eligible. I'm going to try and get Harry Hogg to field one of his barnyard specials for me.

So Nascar has announced more changes to stop the 2 car drafting we've seen at Daytona and a few other speedways over the last couple of seasons. But what I don't understand is what the problem is. Can someone enlighten me please?

But why? From the racing I've seen over the past couple of seasons it has been pretty entertaining and lead to some great finishes.

I asked the same question over at TBK, which was stupid as I should have really expected to get the barely mature answers I received...

It doesn't look familiar so they don't like it.

I find it very entertaining. But i think they want the old drafting pack back because:
Junior doesn't like the two car tandem drafting.
Brian Redman: "Mr. Fangio, how do you come so fast?" "More throttle, less brakes...."

I know I will get bashed for this comment, but Americans need to see something happening all the time to keep their interest.

Pack racing suggests that there is something happening, or about to, even when nothing is going on. The illusion is enough to excite.

It really is as simple as that.

I don't really hate the tango drafting thing as much as most seem to. However I do find it wrong that you're 100% dependent on having a partner to have any hope of finishing top-20 even. In the old 'pack' racing, a driver was more in control of his own destiny. This video shows that pretty well.

According to Jayski, Best Buy is set to become Matt Kenseth's primary sponsor, which could pave the way for Kurt Busch to replace Allmendinger in the 43.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. It makes sense. From a casual Nascar follower I hadn't looked at it this way before. This was the kind of answer I was hoping to get, not the "coz it fuckin sucks" response I received elsewhere.
