Indycar to return to Argentina....?

I say return.... the 1971 USAC IndyCar season opened on the three-mile oval at Autodromo Ciudad de Rafaela.

An envoy from Argentina has visited Indycar HQ since the 500 to talk about hosting a race there.... it seems the group from Argentina represents the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo, the circuit. that currently holds the MotoGP round there.

It seems Indycar are happy to look at other countries as well, as long as the funds to transport the cars, teams, and equipment is met, and a strong sanction fee is capable of being paid that would boost each team’s Leaders Circle contract.

Argentina is a bit surprising. I thought Mexico would be an enticing option.

Agree totally.... logistically a hell of a lot easier too. Seems a no-brainer to me

It seems Ricardo Juncos has been pushing for an Argentinian race for the past 5 years now..... :suspicious:

Woooo Kyle!

Does Felix have any backing behind him?

Might be out in the cold, or otherwise end up as one of the Coyne boys if he has a little bit of ... coin.

Ferrucci to sub for injured Ilott in Detroit IndyCar race

Callum Ilott will miss this weekend’s Detroit Grand Prix with a hand injury sustained in his Indianapolis 500 crash, and will be replaced at Juncos Hollinger by Santino Ferrucci.

Illot lost the rear of the car at Turn 2 on lap 69 in the 500.... The car spun through 270 degrees, striking the SAFER barrier with first the nose and then the left side, sustaining heavy damage.

Ilott exited the car without assistance, but his hand and wrist were strapped when he emerged from the infield medical centre and he has not been cleared to race on Belle Isle this weekend.

Illot will be re-evaluated next week,

No, he doesn’t have any backing. ASPM said they’re in no rush to decide on the 7 car, and with Felix newfound speed (finally) he might still be in with a shot to retain the seat, but he has to deliver at both Detroit and Road America now.

I thought Rossi going to ASPM to join Pato was all done bar the confirmation..... or have I got that wrong? Or are ASPM going ahead with running 3 cars, which I sort of remember being a thought?

They were talking about it being the goal for 2023. But who knows?

Rossi may have had a bad couple of years, but I don't think there are too many people who think that's his fault. He's still a fast driver worthy of a top tier drive. So if not ASPM then really that just leaves Penske (who just downsized this year, so I doubt that would be a destination) or Ganassi (who I guess would be a possibility, but I haven't heard a peep about them).

What's the general feeling for the reason behind Rossi's slump?

Mainly his team.

The Andretti cars have been pretty unreliable for an almost spec series. Screwed a lot on pit stops and strategy as well.

He hasn't been slow (maybe not quite as fast as he was 2-3 years ago, but still in the top 6 regularly?). And he hasn't had too many accidents either.

ASPM has confirmed 3 cars for 2023, so Rossi + Pato + someone else (since a few weeks back).

They were going for Vandoorne (apparently) but he's set for Formula E. So if they decide to ditch FRO, Veekay is their top name.

Jenna Fryer is implying that McLaren wants Palou now.

Because that went so well for Felix?
