IndyCar closing on Toronto replacement decision

Options to replace the cancelled Honda Indy Toronto NTT IndyCar Series event are coming into view.

RACER has learned three leading scenarios have developed to solidify the calendar, which has 16 of 17 races confirmed. Mid-Ohio, due to be held over the July 4 weekend, is led by the same Green Savoree Race Promotions group that runs Toronto and is the first option to be converted into a doubleheader.

The second is World Wide Technologies Raceway (formerly known as Gateway), set for a Saturday race on August 21, which could be expanded to twin races on the Illinois oval. And the third option is to go without replacing Toronto and stick with a 16-race schedule. No other tracks are known to be under doubleheader consideration.

IndyCar, St Pete extend deal through 2026

The NTT IndyCar Series will have at least five more years of racing to hold on the streets of St. Petersburg after the Floridian city approved a five-year extension for the Firestone Grand Prix.

Easy to get when you left an uncompetitive F1 team.

Yup. Here's a video of K-Mag and RoGro reuniting at Detroit this week. They both seem to be enjoying themselves again.

Half way through the season, and here's the top 12 in points:
1 Patricio O'Ward 299
2 Alex Palou 298
3 Scott Dixon 263
4 Josef Newgarden 248
5 Rinus VeeKay 243
6 Simon Pagenaud 243
7 Marcus Ericsson 211
8 Graham Rahal 209
9 Colton Herta 202
10 Takuma Sato 181
11 Will Power 169
12 Scott McLaughlin 164
Can't see Ericsson doing the business. But it's anyone's from Pagenaud up.

Pretty stunned to see O'Ward and Palou 1-2 though. I wouldn't have put money on that.

I'd still say that Dixon or Newgarden will win, but I'd be well happy with an O'Ward title... As long as he stays in Indycar (he wouldn't).

Can't see Pagenaud in the mix. He's only so high because his best race happened to be the double points at IMS.

Dixon has one win but has been relatively quiet elsewhere and that fuel issue at Indy 500 really set him back.

I'm really impressed by Palou. The guy doesn't make any mistakes for the time being.

Agree that Pagenaud is likely out of the game. I just mentioned him because of the points total and his experience. But Penske is generally really out of it this year. Really not sure why.

That obviously harms Newgarden's chances a bit, but I have more faith in him than Pagenaud.

on the other hand, Penske cars lead both races at Detroit until lap 66, but circumstances got the better of them. They are not hurting from a significant dip in form, the series is just so competitive this year.

Oh, for sure.

But at the same time, the way they're throwing races (and have done so for the last couple of seasons) doesn't exactly fill one with confidence if you were one of their drivers.

I wonder who triggers a caution first? Johnson or Ware?

Rinus Veekay picked up a clavicle injury (broken collarbone most likely) while cycling around and his status for Elkhart Lake is uncertain.
