Kirkwood wins the second last race of the year at Mid Ohio.

If he finishes in the top 5 he's in Indycar next year, even if Malukas wins. For at least 3 races, anyway.

Get ready for the speeeeed .

Meanwhile, Kirkwood wins! Well, Lundqvist won (his first win since the fifth race!). But Kirkwood wins the title.

I really like him. Hopefully he lands a full time ride next year.

I don't think he has money though. I think he's been largely using the scholarship winnings from the previous year to fund the next season. Sadly he'll be around $4-5m short for a full time ride...

And meanwhile, Dane Christian Rasmussen wins the Indy Pro 2000 Championship from American Braden Eves, Kiwi Hunter McElrea, Russian Artem Petrov, and American Reece Gold in 5th. It was daylight after that lot.

Sadly the field numbers this year started out well with 17 cars for the first couple of rounds, but dropped to as low as 11 cars as the year went on.

Kirkwood seems well spoken and likeable for a sponsor (and talented). If somebody gives him a punt for a full season next year then he's got a chance at a career in Indycar.

But no chance for Lundqvist :(.

A bit sad that they only have 1-2 ovals. 3-4 would be nice.

Some Indy Lights stuff from the past month or so:

Matthew Brabham is back, baby! With Andretti - https://www.andrettiautosport.com/news/ ... hts-lineup
Hunter McElrea with Andretti - https://racer.com/2021/11/11/mcelrea-jo ... dy-lights/
Christian Rasmussen to Andretti - https://racer.com/2021/12/07/rasmussen- ... -andretti/
The People's Stingray was already confirmed at Andretti.

Danial Frost to HMD from Andretti - https://racer.com/2021/11/18/frost-move ... dy-lights/
Benjamin Pedersen to HMD - https://racer.com/2021/12/07/pedersen-r ... -campaign/
Christian Bogel to HMD as well - https://www.indycar.com/news/2021/12/12-16-bogle-hmd

Jacob Abel moves up with Abel Motorsports - https://racer.com/2021/12/09/jacob-abel ... dy-lights/

Kyffin Simpson to TJ Speed Motorsports - https://formulascout.com/tj-speed-team- ... 2022/79913

There are 9 or 10 cars already hopefully doing the full season. Fingers crossed another one or two join (no word from Juncos yet? I think Carlin is out), and no doubt a few random entries here and there. That said, it's also likely some funding dries up and not everyone does the full season as well.

Edit: Apparently Exclusive Motorsport are also doing a couple of cars: https://www.indycar.com/news/2021/11/11 ... ndy-Lights

Beat me to it. Just coming in to post that little snippet. A few points about it....

Full Indy Lights season for the first time since 2014 for Brabham. (He is 27 now, I keep thinking of him as a kid still.)
Andretti Autosport seem to be the cream team of Indy Lights.... the team which has delivered the past three Indy Lights titles (Pato O’Ward in 2018, Oliver Askew in 2019, and Kyle Kirkwood last year). So as good a place to be as any. Hopefully it will be 4/4

Brabham and Andretti have history, having together won the 2013 Indy Pro 2000 crown.

Bring it on.

Yeah, he's just one of those that really slipped through the cracks, isn't he? Never really got a proper chance at anything.

And hopefully The Race YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/WeAreTheRace) continue to stream races this year.

With an Aussie and a Kiwi in the field, it should provide some interest.

(And easier to access coverage than the main game!)

Formula Scout reports James Roe Jr is joining Indy Lights with TJ Speed Motorsports: https://formulascout.com/indy-lights-an ... grid/88504

And says the grid is now 11 full time cars:
In addition to TJ Speed, the Lights grid currently consists of four Andretti Autosport entries, a three-strong HMD Motorsports stable that includes a car co-run with Global Racing Group, Abel Motorsports’ Jacob Abel and the Penske-supported plan for USF2000 team Force Indy to step up and field FRegional Americas star Ernie Francis Jr.
TJ Speed is also an Australian team run by Tim Neff. Who knew?
