PT watches IndyCar 1993

I have heard that, despite the very tragic moments, 1999 is still a good year to watch for Montoya's championship fight.

I also know that "any season" might be good to watch, but I only want to see one for now.

1991 and 1992 are both great with last race title deciders. 1995 was great, as was of course Nigel's lone season (1994).

Nigel's first season was 1993, which was pretty epic. He ran 1994 too, but I don't recommend 1994 however, Penske was too dominant that year.

1993 (red 5!) or 1995 for my money.

Post split, 1999 was also pretty incredible, deaths aside. Four engines, five chassis.

You know what, let's go for 1993. I can't say I have seen a single race from that season, but the whole Mansell thing makes it a potential epic, even though I don't particularly like the guy. I'm downloading now and if anyone is interested, I will update this thread as I watch the races one by one.

Just a quick question - the race where he and Dennis Vittolo ended up colliding in the pit exit, was that Indy 93? Or 94?

That was 1994.

I'd say 1993 would be the most fun season to follow, just for the hype surrounding Mansell. Plenty of great race too, ofc.

Well, I'm 30 minutes into the first race at Surfers Paradise. Mansell was on pole, but he was clearly too tentative on his first rolling start and dropped down to 4th. Not so much solid racing so far, everyone is taking it easy. No wonder, the cars seem fragile and a lot of the drivers do seem pretty amateur...

EDIT: I say that and Mansell is right under Emmo's rear wing.

Bloody hell, Mansell's pass on Emmo :haha: He just threw it down the inside, the fronts totally locked, smoke pouring off the tyres and Emmo had no answer/

When you get to Indianapolis, don't forget to watch the time trials as well!

I managed to finish the race off last night before passing out, Mansell was just on a different level to everyone. He was driving like a hungry 20 year old, not a 40 year old. And then he ran out of fuel as he crossed the line. Pretty amazing!

It seems Penske was getting terrible fuel mileage from their Chevrolet engine as well, so Emmo just had to cruise around for the last half of the race. I wonder if that plagued them for much of the season (don't tell me!)

I don't think there's ever been a better race driver than Nigel Mansell ca 1992-1993.

Possibly Harry Gant in September 1991.
