Bottom post of the previous page:

I've never really been impressed with JR. He's seldom achieved anything much during his years in Indycar and he's often only remembered fondly for Indy 2011. But considering the fuel mileage stuff going on that day, almost anyone could have won, and nearly did. Although Panther's treatment of him in 2013 was pretty shoddy, considering Panther weren't exactly a top notch team any longer.

I see Newgarden has given himself the best chance for the title by gaining pole position for Sonoma, clocking a new lap record in the process. Perhaps more important is the bonus point that goes with pole.
Dixon starts from P6.
Fingers crossed for Newgarden. :fingers: :fingers:

Better not end in a first corner pile-up while Dixie cruises to the championship!

The right man won it. The race was a bit of a bore though.

Congrats to Newgarden, surprised Dixon wasn't more of a factor. I agree, race was kinda of a bore, would love them to finish at Fontana.

Both Indycar and Nascar end long seasons which are often closely fought at really uninspiring tracks. You'd have thought Road America or The Glen would make more appropriate finales.

Saying that, Sonoma's exact layout stretched so the track is twice as long, with rolling green grass and hills, would make it somewhat of a North American Spa.

Yeah, it's not a bad actual layout, just the distance. And yes, the scenery is uninspiring too!

Sonoma is a pretty good track. It is scenery of that part of California, that is making it not an inviting place.

It looks quite nice in spring. The series should go there around Long Beach early in the season.

I always saw it as the successor to Riverside, which was demolished in 1988 and where both USAC and NASCAR used to end their seasons for many years. It too had not much in the way of scenery and was brown and dusty for most part but both tracks had a similar flow.

Sonoma is a great track, it's just that a Indycar doesn't suit it. Pretty much the same goes for Laguna Seca.

Sonoma does need a car with fenders or some sort of covered bodywork atleast for confident racing as it's so narrow and line sensitive but perhaps they could try the layout NASCAR uses. It has 2 really good passing zones which I feel will work great even for Indycars.
