Bottom post of the previous page:

Hehehehe.... Nearly is Lewis Hamilton in his rookie year.

Found a couple of other pics I had of Mallocks racing as open wheelers. Plus now posting the right links for the other couple in my last post,

Arthur Mallock on the grid for an F2 race at Snetterton in 1967

Image

And this is one car I know intimately personally, having been offered (and enjoyed) a shared drive in it one weekend, with Richard Mallock at Snetterton back in 1982. (*pic is not from that weekend, but is the car fairly recently elsewhere.*)
The families own Mallock Mk 6 in F-Ford spec.Or it was when I drove it.

Image

Arthur at Crystal Palace in 1967 UK F3.

Image

1976 UK F3 spec Mallock driven I think, by Ray..

Yes. Nearly.

Well sort of. Fringe(-ish), but I dont know whether it was one of those he has a sponsor with a few quid, give him a couple of tests sort of deals, or whether he was a real talent caught in the wrong team / place at the wrong time.

I am sure this may have been an influence in his current decision, the biggie that Double Fart mentioned earlier. from a couple of years ago at Indy....

imho Mike was too uptight/ignorant/self belief to fit in to Formula One at the time, whether America has mellowed him or not is another matter.

To my best recollection Mike Conway was never in contention or even linked with an F1 race seat. He was however (and as posted on the previous page) signed up as one of Honda F1's numerous junior drivers.

Power just crashed out of the race. Hunter-Reay has to finish 7th or better to win the championship.

And amazingly, Penske are rebuilding Power's car in an attempt to get him back into the action while RHR is struggling with a suspected broken shock. Still 150 laps to go.

How many times in a career can a bloke bottle out and lose a title on the run in.
I cant say I am upset or even surprised about it.

In all fairness RHR was under more pressure yesterday and it was only a late race caution that helped. Had it not been for Tags motor blowing it's unlikely RHR would have won. Add to that Marco Andretti's jump start / block of the field immediately behind RHR, but we'll move on from that as it's been conveniently ignored by most.

I didn't see the end but yeah, looks like Marco threw the finish to ensure RHR was in the correct position.

Where was RHR running before the stoppage?

3rd or 4th I think. What got RHR into that position was some demon driving on the restart after Tag's engine failure. Marco jumped the start by miles to move Sato away from the back of RHR's car.

I don't begrudge RHR in the slightest, he's a great champion. I do feel a little sick that it's an Andretti car and Marco / Michael spoilt what could have been an incredible finish.

I sadly fell asleep before the end of the race, but at one point, it looked like RHR was dropping back and unable to keep his position. Sure, an element of luck (or bad luck for others) helped him out, but that's what racing is all about

Definitely so, but I don't think anyone is trying to suggest otherwise. It was a great race and a fantastic way to close out the championship.

Indycar this year has been a breath of fresh air. I've really enjoyed the racing.

I've made a point of watching some of the races, I'm starting to grow a liking to it. I'm still not big on oval racing, but I was watching the cars at Fontana and holding my breath. I appreciate how hard it is to drive at those speeds, for so long, and that's just from racing games, where I'm being subjected to temperatures of up to 25 degrees and 1G throughout.

Barrichello joining the series has helped as well, I've been following his progress.
