Hi. I am a musician from Fife, Scotland. I have a very keen interest in motor racing history, and have written a couple of books about drivers. I also love motorcycle racing, particularly road racing. My all time favourite driver is Jim Clark.

Hello : )

The books were about Jim Crawford and Tom Pryce. I have another, much larger book, about Crawford coming out soon as well. I've written a couple of local history books too. Looking forward to having a proper look around here later.

Okk-eye-the-noo
This is one of those Scottish phrases that can be heard in countless parodies aimed at poking fun at the Scots’ dialect and accent. Its direct English translation is “Oh yes, just now”. And, while some Scots may chuckle along with you, it is considered quite offensive by others.

For the record, it is not even something you’ll generally hear the locals say. Some great Scottish expressions you might hear on your travels however, include ‘Whit’s fur ye’ll no go past ye‘ (what will be, will be) and (our personal favourite) ‘Yer aff yer heid!’ – the latter hopefully not in response to something you’ve just said.

A few more old Scottish sayings here....
Haste Ye Back! – Return back with speed – said as a farewell.
Lang may yer lum reek! – Literally meaning long may your chimney smoke, this is typically a toast to one’s health, wishing one lives long and healthy.
Keep the heid! – Keep your head or stay calm.
Hell slap it intae ye! – It is your own fault.
Failing means yer playin! – Trying and failing, but at least you are trying.
I’ll gie ye a skelpit lug! – I’ll hit you on the ear.
Whit’s fur ye’ll no go by ye! – What is for you will not go by you, meaning, what will be, will be.
Skinny Malinky Longlegs! -A tall and skinny person.
Speak o’ the Devil! – When someone you are speaking about shows up.
Black as the Earl of Hell’s Waistcoat! – the colour Black.
Ah dinnae ken. – I don’t know.
We’re a’ Jock Tamson’s bairns! – Everyone is God’s children, nobody is better, everyone is equal.
Dinnae teach yer Granny tae suck eggs! – Stop teaching someone something they already know.
Dinnae marry fur money! – It’s cheaper in the long run to borrow money than marry for it.
Noo jist haud on! – Now just hold it, take your time, you’re speaking too fast.
Is the cat deid? – Has the cat died? This means your trousers are too short, similar to “is your budgie/parrot dead?”
Haud yer wheesht! – Shut up.
Gie it laldy. – Doing something with energy or inappropriateness.
It’s a dreich day! – A miserable, cold, wet day in reference to the weather.
Mony a mickle maks a muckle! – Small amounts of savings soon build up to large amounts.
I’m fair puckled! – I’m out of breath.
Do yer dinger. – Showing disapproval.
many more here....

Hi there @Ochayethenoo , welcome from the German branch as well !

For me it is just motorcycle racing, and the real roads in particular as well these days
I've lost interest in four wheel racing in general a long time ago now, thanks to the self claimed pinnacle of that (motor-)sport but switch in occasionally only to quickly turn it off again as it doesn't apply to me anymore.

Since September 2016, when I sniffed air at the Frohburg Road Races here in Germany the real roads became my real love although I'm willing to watch all racing on two wheels. It is Cadders in BSB this weekend, ain't it ?

However, have a great Sunday and enjoy your stay :bye:

What are the titles to these books?
