Two separate horror crashes and two red flags in the Moto 3 .... the second one one of those multi bike ones involving 4 bikes and riders running over others. No replays had me fearing the worst, but miraculously no one injured. Race was eventually called back to the first red flag incident. Absolute miracle it was not worse. One of those involved was Moto 3 title leader Acosto.

Moto 2 on now.

Gardner has crashed out of 2nd place in the Moto2 with Fernandez, his nearest title challenger leading the race comfortably.. Could be a title changing moment. Gardner will still lead but his margin much reduced... I think to 9 points only. Fernandez is on a roll and has been closing the gap steadily in recent races.

Oncu has been banned from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix later this month, and Algarve Grand Prix in November.

"You were found to have caused a crash by swerving into the line of another rider on the straight portion of the track between T11 and T12," the stewards said in a statement.

"This contravenes the specific instructions given to all team/competitors by email, and it is considered irresponsible riding causing danger to other competitors.

"It is therefore an infringement of Article 1.2.1.2 of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix Regulations.

"For the above reasons and the deliberate causing this serious incident, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel has imposed a suspension from participating in the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the 2021 Algarve Grand Prix."
Is calling it a "swerve" a bit of an overkill?

Yes he 100% moved over. But it wasn't quick.

They're just making one man the face of an issue that's long been threatening the safety of riders in Moto3.

Darryn Binder will move up to MotoGP with the rebranded Petronas SRT team (called RNF next season). Of course he's not ready for MotoGP and will probably struggle a lot but the original plan was to move him to Moto2 until Petronas pulled the plug on the intermediate class sponsorship while the contract with the Sepang team remained valid.

Yes the outcome looks bad, but I doubt it would have been sanctioned at all if it is was about these two crashing alone. Condemning the cause this way is brutally harsh, especially when one considers the antics of a Marc Marquez usually getting applauded and not sanctioned. Same ugly face of a coin getting judged as different as it could be.

So, FIM's response to all these tragedies is raising Moto3 & Moto2 age limits to 18 (among other things). I have a feeling this will be voided within the next few years anyway since it's a complete knee-jerk reaction. You raise the junior age by one but lower Moto3 by two? That doesn't even add up already. If someone dominates Moto3 junior at age 16 where would he compete at age 17? Another season in juniors? Would make no sense at all. Lowering the grid numbers in junior categories is obviously the most sensible thing of the lot.

Didn't they double the capacity of the old junior formula anyway.... used to be 125cc then with the intro of Moto3 it became 250cc.

All the categories basically at least doubled their engine size at least from the old 500cc, 250cc and 125cc days a decade ago when the Moto prefix was adopted.... now 250cc, 765cc and 1000cc (I think Moto2 use a 'crate' Triumph engine now, but was 600cc for a while).

I dont see them reducing grid size either.... surely Dorna get the entry fees from every bike / team so fewer bikes = less income from that side for them.

500cc would have been the limit of controlabilty in the two-smoke days. The 500s were slower compared to today but much much more agressive.

The four strokes though, do need the bigger capacity to get moving anyway, reach way higher top speeds and are going way way smoother than a 500cc two-stroke

I was able to watch the difference during TT 18 with the Suter MMX 500 in comparison to the Honda, BMW, Kawasaki and Yamaha 1000s and mind you, it is mind blowing.

One day after the age limit news we have our first loophole short cut. Zonta van den Goorbergh (who turns 16 in December) has signed a Moto2 contract for 2022 :whistling: I wonder if he takes his father's number (#17)?

Quartararo is the new World Champion in Moto GP

He has been the favourite to win, and it has been his to lose for a while now but he has today confirmed it. Bagnaia who had of late become a serious challenger to Quartar did everything he could in the last few races, gradually closing the gap, and set Pole for this weekend while Quartar failed to get to Q2. Bags led for much of the race challenged all the way by MM93, but then just a few laps from the end crashed out, with it finishing his chamionship hopes. Quartar ha in the meantime ridden through the field u to 4th.
MM93 went on to win his second race in a row and indeed it was a Repsol Honda 1-2 with Esargaro coming in 2nd. Bastianini took 3rd and Quartar 4th to seal the title.

Rossi finished 10th in his final race at Misano before retirement at the season end.

Still two rounds to go, Algarve and Valencia, but this is the result that settled the title and chamionship positions as of tonight.

Marquez to miss Algarve MotoGP round after training accident

It seems MM93 cant take a trick at the moment..... after a lengthy re-acclimatisation after his injury caused season layoff, just as he seemed to be getting back up to speed it has all gone pear-shaped again.

Honda issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon noting Marquez crashed during an off-road training session and suffered a concussion last Saturday.

Still feeling unwell, he has been advised to miss this weekend’s penultimate round of the 2021 MotoGP season in Portugal.
Honda has made no mention if Marquez will be replaced by HRC test rider Stefan Bradl.

A bit of a shame as it would have been good to see if he could get some of the speed on a clockwise circuit as he has shown in the last two races..... both of them on anticlockwise circuits at the Sachsenring and the COTA. Those a/c circuits are less taxing on his damaged right shoulder. Mastering a clockwise track would be a great indicator of how his recovery is tracking.

Hopefully he recovers swiftly and can be fit for the season finale.
