Nicky Hayden RIP

#1

Post by caneparo »

Honda rider nicky hayden was involved in a road accident this afternoon in rimini, italy. He was riding his bike with a group of friends when he was hit by a car.
Italian press reports he suffered a head and chest trauma and that he has been brought to the hospital in serious conditions
The accident happened just 2 hours ago so the only info known up to now are that he was transported to rimini hospital in the maximum seriousness code.

Autosport now reporting of the incident
Former MotoGP champion and current Honda World Superbike factory rider Nicky Hayden is in a serious condition, having sustained injuries in a road accident while cycling in Italy.

Hayden, 35, was riding with friends on a road close to Rimini on Wednesday when a road car collided with his bicycle, the American ending up on the hood of the car and impacting against its windshield.

He was rushed to a hospital in Rimini with severe head and chest trauma - and remains in a serious condition.

Hayden was a MotoGP mainstay between 2003 and 2015, having raced for the Honda and Ducati factory teams, as well as then-Honda privateer outfit Aspar.

He famously pipped Valentino Rossi to the 2006 MotoGP crown and scored a total of three premier class wins - all with Honda.

Although he featured in MotoGP as recently as last year, subbing for Jack Miller at Marc VDS Honda and for Dani Pedrosa at the factory Honda team, Hayden has focused on World Superbikes for the past two campaigns.

He finished fifth in the championship last year, securing Honda's only win of the season in Malaysia, and currently sits 13th in the 2017 standings.

Unfortunately there are no good news.
Nicky has been transfered from rimini hospital, where it s been supposed that he arrived unconscious, to bufalini hospital of Cesena, which has a specialised neurosurgery department.
According to the first rumors the doctors are worried for a brain hedema. He also suffered and exposed leg fracture with serious blood loss. The back injuries are not worrying.
His conditions has been reported critical.

Update: eurosport reports that nicky conditions are desperate and he s fighting for life. Surgery is not possible because of the entity of the brain injures

I just read that the hospital Nicky has been transferred to is the same one American MotoGP legend Wayne Rainey was taken after his career-ending accident at nearby Misano in 1993.

No change in the prognosis for Nicky at this stage other than he is expected to be operated on as soon as his condition is stabilised.
Apparently his bicycle was snapped in half in the impact. :omg:
:fingers: for Nicky.

This is extremely saddening. I hope he pulls through to one day live a reasonable life, but it's looking really grim at the moment. Keep fighting, Nicky.

Much like Schumacher, he's been injured outside of motorsport, which makes it more shocking in a way.

I hope this doesn't end up with him in a similar situation to Michael. Whatever happens, it doesn't sound good at all.

It is amazing how many motorsport stars seem to fall foul of training or riding on bikes.... thinking of Loeb a few years ago, when he missed a handful of WRC rallies, and Nick Heidfeld, both of who broke bones in cycling mishaps, and then there was Mark Webber who badly broke his leg when he hit a 4WD head on in an off road race. I'm sure there are many others I can't think of at the moment.
