@Andy Great story and picture.
Indeed Murray was a legend and will be much missed for a number of reasons. :rip:

Just a little addendum to the writing above.

With his commentaries, be it F1 or bike racing, Murray taught me one important lesson about languages. Any language remains dead if it is just written & read but it is filled with life once it is spoken.

Here's a little anecdote in regards to Murrays' dad Graham Walker.
You may have seen a wheelie pic or two by me from a place called Keppel Gate, right past the 33rd milestone, on the Isle of Man's Mountain Course. Now you have to know, that this isn't exactly Keppel Gate anymore but a place between two landmarks of which the second is called Kate's Cottage.

Kate's Cottage though, used to be named Tate's Cottage until Murrays' dad Graham had a slip of tongue and called it Kate's in a BBC pre-ww2 commentary. That name stuck ever since but local fairytale has it, that a lady called Kate lived there for a while. Thinking about it, perhaps Murrays' dad knew more about it  :haha:

Image
It is a famous landmark as you can spot it from the Douglas districts of Willaston and Onchan with the bare eye in the distance. In the pic above, shot from Willaston cemetary (on the Clypse Course), Kate's would be the tiny white dot right next to the hill top towards the left edge of the pic. The bigger white dot near the right edge would be Creg-ny-Baa. Keppel Gate would be enclosed here but cannot be seen, as the road towards Kate's sits at the foot of a high bank coming from the left edge.

Yesterday I've learnt about the passing of Dick Mann (86) on April 26, a couple weeks short of his 87th anniversary.

Dick Mann was the second-winningest rider in AMA Grand National Series history with 24 national victories during a career which spanned from the early 1950s to the mid 1970s. In 1970, after 15 fruitless attempts, Dick won the Daytona 200 in which he beat former world champion Mike Hailwood and the rising stars Gene Romero as well as Gary Nixon.

Ride in peace.
Farewell, Dick. :rip:

PS: By reading up on Dicks career I've learnt that he was a TT racer. Interested in which TT's he rode I found the Illinois Tourist Trophy at Peoria in 1959 as well as the Houston TT in 1971. There might have been more but for now I'd be interested in infos on these two aforementioned TT's. (circuit layout, possible pics, a map/sat image containing where it would be today, stories). Perhaps our American friends can help out here?
Thanks in advance

Extremely sad news from Mugello today. The cruel mistress that motorcycle racing can be.

Very sad to hear. I saw the accident earlier and noticed he was run over by the following motorcycle. That rarely works out well. :(

It somehow reminded me to Jonesys' at Brands Hatch back in '08.

One of our three Great Dutch Riders from the 70's, has passed away after an accident with his bicycle.
After the passing of Jack Middelburg and Boet van Dulmen, Wil Hartog is the last one left.

Image

Former motor center Boet van Dulmen (73) killed in accident in Ammerzoden

Image

Former motorcycle councilor Boet van Dulmen (73) died this morning in a collision with a delivery van. That reports a family member. The accident happened at 10.15 am at the Onderwaard in Ammerzoden, its place of residence. Van Dulmen was on the way on his bicycle.

Passers-by offered the victim first aid, after which the emergency services were overcoming it upon arrival. These efforts were in vain: the engine hero of yesteryear died on the spot. A police spokesperson reports that.

Exactly how the accident could happen, the police are going to investigate.

At the beginning of 2020, a bust was unveiled for 'Den Boet' in Ammerzoden. Van Dulmen was not a factory rider and thereby had to do on less material than its competitors. Yet in 1979 he won the Grand Prix of Finland and was second at the TT in Assen in 1981.
