After all, it was him who gifted Marquez with a gap he was able to maintain, on a circuit not as hard on his injured arm. Marquez will have to back this victory up in Assen next week, else it was just a one off and not the big ballyhoo advertisement board 'comeback' victory.
And this time without the aid of a roadblock, please.
My analysis too. Aleix got scared when the "rain" came, and that won Marquez the race.

I mean Marquez would always be the favorite around here, especially with a slightly damp track. He can still ride a bike but I don't foresee him trouncing the field at Assen.

Garrett Gerloff will replace Franco Morbidelli at Assen.

Morbidelli still deals with that knee injury he suffered in Le Mans practice.

Interesting to see how Gerloff goes stepping up. Shame for Morbidelli though.

Reading today Morbidelli's out for 8 weeks
Yamaha SRT has confirmed Morbidelli underwent a successful one-hour surgery to repair the damaged meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Carried out in Casa di Cura Madre Fortunata Toniolo at Bologna, Professor Maurilio Marcacci and his team are satisfied with the surgery and the outcome of the operation,” read a team statement.

“Franco will now stay in the hospital until Sunday for observation. Upon release the Italian will be able to start the recovery process, which will include an eight-week rehabilitation programme.”
It seems it is an old injury he has been carrying but further damaged.
“After another painful incident with my left knee training on Wednesday I made the decision, together with Petronas Yamaha SRT and the VR46 Academy, to fix this issue that I’ve been carrying for too long now.

I underwent surgery this morning with only one idea in my mind: to come back in the best form as soon as possible and to be able to perform at 100 percent on the bike.

“I want to thank Professor Maurilio Marcacci and his team for their work. I can’t wait to be able to start my recovery process.

“I’ll miss my team, my bike and all the fans during this period, but I’m looking forward to being at the circuits again and enjoying racing. Thank you for all of your messages of support. See you soon!”

By the way did you see the highside Marc Marquez had yesterday?
Bloody scary stuff and very lucky to have come out of it with nothing more than a good battering and a few bruises. Notice he seemed a bit more subdued today.

Video of the highside here:

Raul Fernandez will move up to Tech3 KTM in 2022 so that probably means both Lecuona & Petrucci will be out.

Marquez has admitted that the practice crash “affected him a lot” on Saturday after qualifying down in 20th. He also admitted he did not think he would be able to ride this weekend after the spill..... he thought he had fractured his ankle. Another crash in Q1 no doubt did not help his mindset.
“I mean, it’s true that today I started the morning and the first thing was I was like, ‘OK, it will be impossible to ride the bike’ because after the crash from yesterday I had a lot of pain on the right foot and I was not able to push with the right arm,” he said.

“Then it was very difficult. This was in the morning, then in the afternoon step-by-step I feel better

“It’s true that the crash from yesterday affected me a lot today.”
Apparently he had been having issues with the electronics on Friday (Traction control) and when he crashed he had it turned off. Honda created a new electronics setting for Saturday and that was met with approval from Marquez.

At the other end of the grid its Vinales on pole (having a better day than Germany!) with Quartar and Bagnaia on the front row.. Rossi a bit better this week qualifying 12th.

I mean, racer's gonna race and all, but why even bother with this season instead of just rehabbing completely and focus on 2022? That said two years off the bike and away from racing would present a big enough issue in itself.

Surprised to read Vinales looking to quit Yamaha for APrilia, although he is now denying the Aprilia link. Now quitting Yamaha is just an option.

Another win for Quartar, one done easy once he got the lead. He now leads the title race by 34 points from Zarco.

Viñales split confirmed by Yamaha

Yamaha has confirmed that Maverick Viñales will not see out his current contract and will instead part ways at the end of the current season.

It states the split was at Mavericks request in the official team statement.
“Yamaha and Maverick Viñales have mutually decided to terminate their current 2021-2022 agreement at the close of this season.”

“Following Maverick Viñales‘ request, Yamaha have agreed to put an early end to their current two-year contract. Currently in their fifth season together, they mutually decided to go their separate ways after this year.

“Both parties are committed to putting in their maximum effort for the remainder of the 2021 MotoGP season and ending the relationship on a high note.”
