Looks just about big enough to actually be a sprint car, like the one here:

Yes, it is a Sprint car. I'll have to check when I'm home, but I think it's either Tony Willman or Bus Wilbert, 1940 or thereabouts.

Similar one from same seller, looks like it could have been taken on same day, at same event.

#25 Hal Special. Sign: Reading Fairgrounds Sunday 26 May. That would fit the year 1946.

Ahh, so it's postwar! In which case, the Dreyer car stays the same, only now it's owned by Mark Light, and driven by Lee Wallard who crashed it at Trenton, May 5, breaking his left leg - he was back racing within five weeks, with a cast!! The other car is the (Pat) De Luca/Hal, crashed by George Rutty (sometimes spelt Ruddy, I'm not really sure which one's right) at the same turn only minutes earlier (Rutty crashed on lap 2 of heat 1, and Wallard on lap 4 of heat 2). The car in the background with the distinctive paint job is the (Walt) Studley/Cragar, driven by Bob Cooney, also a non-starter but due to mechanical reasons.

That's Ted Horn, behind the twisted offside radius rod, having a look at the wreck!
