[cpdb] Fixes/Revisions List

#1

Post by PTRACER »

[x] Error in database design - Year column ordering not working as expected
[x] Changes to the administrative side of the database
[x] Add multiple lines to the Vehicle box in case multiple vehicles were involved
[x] Add a welcome message to the top of the List page
[x] Write a paragraph including an email address where people can send Copyright claims
[x] Provide an upload link so people can upload photos from other sites to The Fastlane or Benhuset server
[x] Fix the 'Contains' search box at the top of list page. It moves out of line when you use Search then click 'Show All'.
[x] Adjust Fatal column width
[x] Add an option to NOT display Fatal crashes by default
[x] Link to return to The Fastlane Forum
[x] Separate Categories from Series
[x] Add copyright notice to footer
[x] Bug where 'Sorting' was by item ID, not the name
[x] Revise Latest Entries page to include more entries
[x] Replace the clunky 'Warning' image system by separating gory pics into a second field, which is hidden behind a button and a collapsible <div>
[x] Give contributors individual accounts rather than one blanket admin account
[x] Create a 'behind the scenes' log of exactly who contributes what to the CPdB so due credit can be given
[x]New entries always have a default value of "1" in the "Also Involved" field. As of now, you have to delete that "1" manually
[x] Upgrade CPdB frontend to v2.0
[x] Remove the 'Safe' version of CPdB
[x] Retire a few superfluous tags, Series and Events

To Do List (27/03/2020)

]
[ ] "Updated By" only working on existing entries
[ ] Warning photos cropped unnecessarily - remove 1024px restriction
[ ] Set Menu bar to max width of 1920px
[ ] Menu bar not appearing on mobile
[ ] Certain fields not appearing on mobile
[ ] Orange search button looks out of place on mobile
[ ] Add "Suggest a correction" email link
[ ] Add a short Poll in a window on the homepage
[ ] Add a 'Thanks To...' credits page
[ ] Add a new field for car numbers
[ ] Receive the blessings of LAT, Getty, etc. etc. etc....
[ ] Eventually replace the entire front end and search aspect of the CPdB with a standard homepage like MMorg, with clickable search terms etc.

------------------------

Previous Updates:

21 Oct 2015
Added a max-width of 1280px to the View Record window
Placed an 'Advanced Search' button on the Index
Removed the 'Contains/Equal To/Less Than/More Than' dropdown box as it doesn't work as intended
Removed the header from every page but the index

06 Dec 2015
Made a major revision to the database query. Now when you 'Sort' each field, it's ordered by the name of the Series/Category/Circuit alphabetically and not the order it was entered into the database
Revised the search function. The dropdown options are now more appropriate to the Search - for example, Fatal: Yes/No used to appear as a textbox which you could type in, unless you clicked the dropdown box and changed it to 'Equals'

09 Jun 2016
Right-click now fully disabled throughout the database. This will protect photos against unauthorised saving.

18 Jun 2016
The database front end has received a major overhaul. I wanted to make it look a little more presentable before we release it to the general public.

23 Jun 2016
Advanced Search Page now in its final version.

04 Aug 2016
Clicking on a driver's name will now display all crashes by that particular driver.

31 Oct 2016
- Empty fields are now hidden from the 'View Record' page. So, for entries where there is no description, rather than it saying 'Description' and showing an empty box, it now just hides the field label.
- There is now a link at the bottom of each entry called Suggest a correction for this entry. If someone reading spots an error or they have additional information to provide, they may use this link to email us directly and suggest updates/corrections. The 'Subject' field of the email is automatically populated with the race details (e.g. "1972 ADAC 1000km") so we can quickly find the entry that needs updating.
- Final update, the one that took all bloody afternoon. In the case of shared drives, we usually write something like Jacky Ickx/Clay Regazzoni. The problem was, you could not click on their names individually to find more of their crashes. Now you can.

26 March 2017
Image uploader moved to benhuset.dk

13 June 2017
The default order of entries in the database is now by "Date Updated" rather than "Time it was entered". This means that if a very old entry is updated with a new photo/description it will move right to the top of the list.

4 March 2019
Added "Add+Duplicate" button to admin console.

29 March 2020
CPdB v2 released

Big list of fixes done tonight

Fatal crashes are now hidden by default, but a quick click of a button and they are all there.

Motorsportrace - I'm separating 'Category' into 'Category' and 'Series'.

Category will now show Single Seaters, Saloon Cars, Touring Cars etc., Series will show Formula 1, Renault Clio Cup UK, BTCC etc.

Another questions: should we add a "session" field?
If the crash happened during practice, race, private test, etc. (although I had to add a "private test" record in the "category" field: I can't find a category for those crashes, at least when they weren't testing the car for a specific purpose. For example: Bob Anderson was testing his car for the Canadian F1 Grand Prix, so I'd say it was a F1 accident. But I don't really know if Tom Kincaid was testing his car for a specific race or championship).

I think 'Private Test'/'Testing' can fit into the Event field pretty easily. The others would just be "Open wheel" (Category) "Formula 1" (Series) etc.

There's a character limit on the "photos" field (I suppose). I can't add more photos to the Vukovich crash.

I've renamed the files simply vukovich1.jpg through to vukovich10.jpg

If you have many images, please keep filenames short (and without spaces) :)

Well... now even renaming the pictures as "N1", "N2", etc. doesn't solve the problem of the character limit (I'm uploading Gordon Smiley's pictures).

Ok, I'm going to increase the character limit for you shortly. Please either finish off your current entry or leave it on the screen while I upload the new files.

P.S. For the IndyCar crashes, can we add their 'nicknames' to the Driver(s) field? For example: James "Jim" Malloy?

Ok, I'll leave it on my screen.

I was thinking about it.
So John Hrankey should be renamed as John "Johnny" "Hannon" Hrankey? And William Denver Orem should be William "Bill" Denver Orem? Or something like that?

I've also thought of a picture of the driver's face, but that would be "useful" only for fatal crashes, so I don't think it's a good idea.

Something like that. I think I was just going to keep their formal names. E.g. Just write Jim Malloy if that's how we know them.

The database is currently being updated, in a few minutes you should be able to edit as before.

Still to do: Put a really good Search guide at the top of the Search page, to tell people the best way to use it.
