Oh dear. I wonder if that will bounce on and cause delays to the F1 programme for today, with P1 supposedly in 40 minutes, and qualifying scheduled this evening at 17:00 local time..

Juri Vips beat fellow Red Bull junior Ayumu Iwasa to pole position for Sunday's F2 feature race

Juri Vips took his first pole of the season with a 1m40.221s lap that put him 0.15s clear of Iwasa (DAMS) in a delayed qualy session..By the start of qualifying, which was delayed by the late-running Formula 1 qualifying session, the light level was already fading as drivers headed out on full-wet tyres.

Vips took an early lead with a 1m41.599s before a red flag halted running for 10 minutes after Campos Racing’s Olli Caldwell spun off exiting the Tamburello chicane.

Despite challenges from Jake Hughes (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Campos’ Ralph Boschung, who briefly took over the top spot with just under 10 minutes remaining, Vips managed to improve and ended the session on top for a first pole since Baku last year.

Behind rookie Iwasa, Jack Doohan will start third, having shot up from 21st with a brilliant last-minute flying lap.

Leg fracture for Correa puts him out of the weekend.

Confirmed earlier in the week, Juan Manuel Correa will not participate in this weekend’s Formula 3 round at Imola due to a leg fracture which developed following the start of the season. (Correa you will remember suffered severe injuries to both his legs during the Formula 2 crash at Spa in 2019 that took Anthoine Hubert’s life. Following more than 20 surgeries and a spell in a medically induced coma, Correa returned to racing in F3 last season.)

Correa revealed two weeks ago he had suffered leg pain during the first F3 weekend and again during the subsequent test at Jerez. Following an MRI scan, he was discovered to have a stress fracture that requires several weeks rest to recover.

At the time, Correa was ruled out of the further F3 test and an ELMS round he had been due to compete in at Paul Ricard, admitting that the Imola F3 round was “in doubt.” The need to rest the leg to allow a full recovery led to the call to withdraw from Imola Fortunately following the Imola round there is a four-week break until the next event in Spain.

Doohan has pace to burn. But he very much struggles to race. Not expecting anything from the sprint.

Presume he will be starting the Sprint race halfway to Madrid rather than where he qualified, given they still use some odd mathematical deduct the first number you thought of and divide by 2 then reverse it etc. :tearful:

As an aside, totally off topic but I presume / hope that with the FIA 'rookie drivers to do at least 2 Friday P1's in the main F1 game' mandate will mean Jack will at least get a run in an F1 car at a GP or two. (I know he is don to test at some stage of the year.

Whoops that nearly slipped under the radar..... the F2 Sprint race at Baku is underway now. Lap 13/21

Switched on just in time for Hauger to go into the wall.

And Doohan in 19th :tearful: Dont know what his story is

He started 11th - missed the invert and the participation award that comes with qualifying 10th.

Then picked up a broken wing on lap one. Clobbered a curb they believe.

Two SCs that were totally unnecessary in the race. Competent marshals could have cleared both of them under waved yellows given how long the lap times are here.
