Kelvin van der Linde has dominated the 12 Hour’s first ever night practice session to ive Audi a clean sweep of every session. He was the only driver today to dip into the 3's with a 2:03.9569. Chaz Mostert (#65 Coinspot Audi R8 Evo II) split the internationals to go second, and Gounon’s time would be bumped to fourth by a last-ditch effort from Maro Engel (#91 Craft-Bamboo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3). Markus Winkelhock (#777 Audi Sport Team Valvoline Audi R8 Evo II) rounded out the top five,

Supabarn Audi crashes,

The red flag came 15 minutes into the scheduled 40-minute session with Theo Koundouris in the wall at the top of the Mountain in the #47 Supabarn Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II.

The car got sideways through Reid Park before slapping into the concrete wall on driver’s right just before the Grate, causing heavy damage to the right rear.
The car suffered irreparable (on site) chassis damage and wont be able to run......

However.....

.MPC to revive Supabarn B12H entry with spare Audi
The entry’s hopes have been kept alive with Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia to ship one of their spare R8s to Mount Panorama from Melbourne.

Notably, the car which is on its way is an Evo I specification and will have to be upgraded to the Evo II spec on the ground at Bathurst. Team boss Troy Russell says it will be a tight turnaround with all the work that has to be done but is confident the Supabarn car will at least be able to start from pit lane on Sunday morning.“This [car] is out, unfortunately, it’s got chassis damage on the right rear there.” Russell explained:
“We’ve got another car at work [Melbourne Performance Centre] which is actually only an Evo I so we’ve got to update it to Evo II when it arrives.

“So it’s going to be a big day, but we’ve just got permission to start from pit lane Sunday morning, so we’ll get it here; it’s basically being loaded on a tilt tray now.

“We’ll try and get to quali but there’s a lot of stuff to swap over, all the telemetry stuff, all the BoP logging, the radios, the drinks system, the cameras.

“There’s a bit to do, but anyway, we’ll press on and get it done.

“If we can make quali well and good, if we can’t we’ll start pit lane on Sunday. It’s on its way now.

Breaking News: Craft Bamboo likely to miss qualifying following engine change

Team Craft-Bamboo Racing, the only International entry, is likely to miss Bathurst 12 Hour qualifying after taking its car off-site for an engine change.

During Friday’s practice running the team, which is a top contender, noticed ‘irregularities’ and consulted with the Mercedes-AMG factory in Germany.

The conclusion was met that the engine should be replaced, with the decision to take the #91 Mercedes-AMG GT3 off-site to perform the job safely on a car hoist.

It is likely the Maro Engel/Daniel Juncadella/Kevin Tse entry will miss qualifying, which begins at 13:20 local time/AEST.

Its a long race though and will a bit of luck with SCs and strategy breaks a pit lane start can be overcome.

Especially as this year there is a new "lucky dog" ruling.....

All lapped cars will be given a free pass under Safety Car conditions for this year’s race.

The introduction of the wave-by, colloquially known as the ‘Lucky Dog’, is designed to keep as many Class A GT3 competitors in the running for outright honours as possible.

Winkelhock blitzes P5

A couple of no shows for P5 but nothing unexpected.... they were the Craft Bamboo car (see post above) and the being rebuilt Supabarn Audi crashed yesterday, both anticipated to miss the session.

Winkelhock did a 2:03.1336, certainly the fastest lap this year, and indeed just shy of the 2019 race pole position.

Two red flags for crashes interrupted things..... one where Hadrian Morrell found the wall in the dipper, but managed to returnthe damaged carto the pits with the red to clear debris, the other when Mark Rosser came unstuck at the top of The Mountain.

Sharing the #17 Audi R8 Evo II with Nick Percat and Joey Mawson, Rosser was not able to carry on and remained stranded on track.

In the end, it was Ben Barker (#4 Porsche) who wound up as Winkelhock’s nearest threat, on a 2:03.6543s which kept him fractionally ahead of Jules Gounon (#75 Mercedes) in third.

Q1 underway now. (Am / Bronze) drivers only in this session

Good to see the BASF retro type livery is running again on the #6 Lambo. Reminds me of the old M1 that ran BASF livery in Procar many moons ago....

And the #6 Wall Racing Lambo running at Bathurst

It seems Theo Koundouris who crashed the #47 Supabarn Audi heavily yesterday is to sit out the Bathurst 12 Hour race.

While he is okay, Koundouris has not been cleared to race by the medical team. Maybe he got a concussion I dont know.

That means the originally four-car entry will now be down to the trio of Theo’s brother James Koundouris, David Russell and Paul Stokell.

The car, which as mentioned previously, has undergone a full rebuild into a new chassis shipped up from Melbourne, has been finished and made it out for qualifying.

As expected the Craft Bamboo Mercedes which is undergoing an engine change will miss qualy and start from pitlane.

Qualy was interrupted by reds and with the new format of qualifying for the shootout (and qualifying for grid position for those that dont get to the shootout,) by means of the qualifying time being an aggregate qualifying format, with the times from the Am / Bronze drivers in each car being added to the fastest lap time per car for the all drivers Q2 session.

Liam Talbot (Sharing with Chaz Mosterthad a bit of luck in being the fastest Q1 (Bronze) driver thanks to a Red flag in the last minute.... Schumacher in the #74 Audi he shares with Van der Linde was on a flyer but the red flag screwed it.

Anyway bottom line is Mostert /Talbot car has provisional pole.

Results: Aggregate qualifying.... those in blue will form the top 10 shoutout. Grid positions 11 down in black.

STOP PRESS: Bathurst 12 Hour organisers have made a last-minute change to the format of Saturday’s Top 10 Shootout.

Basically it is no longer a one lap dash as a normal shootout. :tearful:

It seems the 10 have been split into two groups of 5 (1-5 and 6-10) Each group will have a 15 minute session to set their best time.
Any of the ten can still take pole.

It seems the reason for the change was amid concern over tyre warm-up in a one-lap dash shootout.

A change to the regulations has seen the pre-heating of tyres at this year’s event banished, with drivers reporting at least four laps is needed to get tyres to the optimal temperature.

A few teams agreed the change to the shootout procedure was necessary. The long tyre warmup required would mean the cars would be setting their time with only one warm up lap. At best a safety risk for what is a 12 hour race

The 15-minute window will allow each driver enough time in the Shootout / top 10 to reach those temperatures and put in at least one flying lap.

I can see the sense in it although I will miss the shootout countdown aspect.

Mostert has done a 2:02.675 from Van der Linde Feller and Gounon

Edit Van der Linde does a faster 2:02

its all down to Mostert now on his last lap. He has to find 6/100
